"The captivating southwestern Irish countryside adds a delightful element to this paranormal series launch. Gethsemane is an appealing protagonist who is doing the best she can against overwhelming odds." - Library Journal (starred review on Murder in G Major)Gethsemane Brown, African-American classical musician and expatriate to an Irish village, solved a string of murders, led a school orchestra to victory in a major competition, and got used to living with a snarky ghost. She can rest easy over the Christmas holiday. Right? Wrong. The ghost has disappeared, her landlord's about to sell her cottage to a hotel developer, and her brother-in-law is coming for a visit--with one day's notice. She scrambles to call her spectral roomie back from beyond and find a way to save the cottage from certain destruction. But real estate takes a backseat when her brother-in-law is accused of stealing a valuable antique. Gethsemane strikes a deal with a garda investigator to go undercover as a musician at a charity ball and snoop for evidence linking antiques to a forgery/theft ring in exchange for the investigator's help clearing her brother-in-law. At the party, she accidentally conjures the ghost of an eighteenth-century sea captain, then ends up the prime suspect in the party host's murder. With the captain's help, she races to untangle a web of phony art and stolen antiques to exonerate herself and her brother-in-law. Then the killer targets her. Will she save herself and bring a thief and murderer to justice, or will her encore investigation become her swan song?"Gethsemane Brown is everything an amateur sleuth should be: smart, sassy, talented, and witty even when her back is against the wall. In her latest adventure, she's surrounded by a delightful cast, some of whom readers will remember from Gordon's award-winning debut and all of whom they won't forget. Gordon writes characters we want resurrected." - Cate Holahan, Author of 2017 Silver Falchion Award-Nominated The Widower's Wife"Erstwhile ghost conjurer and gifted concert violinist Gethsemane Brown returns in this thoroughly enjoyable follow-up to last year's Murder in G Major. Facing eviction from the historic seaside cottage she calls home, Gethsemane must clear her brother-in-law's name--as well as her own--when a priceless artifact goes missing and the wealthy dowager to whom it belonged is 'helped' over a high balcony railing. With the help of a spectral sea captain she accidentally summoned, Gethsemane tries to unravel the mystery as the murderer places her squarely in the crosshairs." - Daniel J. Hale, Agatha Award-Winning AuthorRelated subjects include: cozy mysteries, women sleuths, murder mystery series, whodunit mysteries (whodunnit), British mysteries, book club recommendations, amateur sleuth books, paranormal mysteries, Irish cozies, ghost mysteries, music mysteries.Books in the Gethsemane Brown Mystery Series: MURDER IN G MAJOR (#1) DEATH IN D MINOR (#2)Part of the Henery Press Mystery Series Collection, if you like one, you'll probably like them all.Author Bio: A writer since childhood, Alexia Gordon won her first writing prize in the 6th grade. I spent the first half of January with dogs who lived just far enough away from their nearest library branches that I couldn‘t walk over there on a whim. (This is why I decided not to do Auld Lang Spine this year. I hope I can score a spot next year.) Now I‘m home, with easy library access again, and I‘ve been able to make my premiere library haul of 2024! I got a LOT of stuff to make up for the dry spell.

While I still liked this book, Gethsemane did something so colossally stupid in it that I wanted to strangle her! The story was good if a little convoluted, and we meet a new and interesting ghost. I will definitely continue with this series. Started Kitchen Confidential and am a bit saddened by the number of throwaway references Bourdain makes to suicide. #audiowalk

It rained a fair amount earlier today, so I was afraid I wouldn‘t be able to get out and walk, but it stopped. In this book, Gethsemane and her brother-in-law who‘s visiting from the US, get involved in an art fraud case that turns into murder. #audiowalk

This was my #doublespin book this month. It was enough fun that I plan to track down the first of this series (since I think this is actually the second). This was filled with dry humor and constant action. I found it engaging, but didn‘t love it. For some reason I wasn‘t trying to solve the mystery myself, that would definitely have made me feel more strongly about it. #scarathlon2021 #treamslaughter @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks

@Eggs and @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Posting late tonight, I actually WENT TO A BOOK STORE!!! It was so nice! Got 3 books I didn't need.😊
# Migrates
The tagged book is another cozy mystery series, classical musician Gethsemane Brown migrates from the US to Ireland to teach music at an all boys private school. She rents a sweet little cottage only to find out her unexpected roomie is a ghost that needs her help. Great series!

Eggs Oh how fun—that‘s the lure of the bookstore-getting books you don‘t need😂😂 Love this art 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 4y

Ran errands and came home to find a gift waiting for me. Friend sent me Fangs, a cute card & pin. Found a couple books at Target (went for paper towels and toothpaste). Now, a candle, some tea, and book two of a series that‘s new to me and that I totally love. A good way to go into the weekend. 🥰

Another fun romp with Gethsemane Brown and her ghostly allies! This time, the art world is bring threatened by forgeries. Gethsemane works her musical and psychic detective skills as she protects her brother-in-law from arrest. I'm putting in my request for the next one now!

My library‘s not had the last 3 ebooks that I was looking for - so odd for them. I like this series featuring a violinist who is stranded in an Irish village teaching music & living with a ghost. #featuresamusician #booked2019

I liked this one even more that book one. Still a huge fan of Gethsemane, though I would probably wouldn't be such a fan if I met her in person. I don't think my temper would like her character.

Picked this one as it is quite short to try to get over Heartless (I even reread Alice in Wonderland this morning)

Marilyncjackson Love this book! 6y
BooksAndTea97 @Marilyncjackson I can't wait to pick up book 3. I wonder what will happen. 6y

I didn‘t like this one as much as the first one, but it was still entertaining. There wasn‘t nearly as much music in this one, and I kept getting the characters confused with each other. The narrator‘s attempts at accents were also distracting, so I may just read the next one! This was my cozy mystery for the Seasonal Challenge! #booked2018, but it would also work for #ReadHarder category as a mystery by a POC

Cinfhen Yay!! Well done🤗sorry it was just ok! 7y
