The Everless Girl
The Everless Girl | Sara Holland
Red Queen meets Fallen in this rich YA fantasy series - blending themes of alchemy, romance and immortality in one incredible package Jules Ember lives in a world where time is everything. Centuries ago, a fabled alchemist found a way to convert time into a physical currency in the form of 'blood iron', which has resulted in a society where the poorest people trade hours, weeks or even years of their lives for food and shelter, and the rich can live for centuries. Living with her dying father in a poor village, controlled by the wealthy Gerling estate, Jules vows to earn enough time to pay their debts and secure a life for herself by working for the Gerling family. But on arrival at the estate, she soon finds herself at the heart of a centuries-old rivalry over the secret to immortal life. Time is a prison. She is the key.

The ending of this book read like a bad soap opera. There were way too many plot twists and, I‘m sorry, but I‘m so done with the secret twin twist. The beginning and middle of this book were excruciatingly slow, and only like one thing happened during the first 200 pages. I only stuck with it because the whole time as currency seemed interesting. This just wasn‘t for me. 2.75⭐️

When I finished “Dead Girls Society”, I thought it was the best book I‘ve ever read— and it was. It‘s still an outstanding piece of writing and completely changed my reading journey. But this book took the number one spot. I was recommended it by my school librarian, and... wow. I‘ve never read anything like it; I never wanted to stop reading it. It had me up past my bed time and when I finished it I was in shock. Running to get the sequel.

Dana.o I‘ll update y‘all as soon as I finish the sequel. :) 3y
GondorGirl I really enjoyed this one. The sequel is on my list and I really should try to get to it soon... 3y
GondorGirl Okay, so, your post inspiration me and I listened to the entire sequel on audiobook today! I hope you enjoy Evermore as much as I did! 3y

The book progressed at a steady rate until the very end. Jules Ember is a strong female protagonist. The story was excellent, and as soon as I finished the book, I immediately wanted to read the second one. Holland's Everless is a fantastic book that will make you not want to put it down.

I really enjoyed this story and read it in quick succession. The story draws you in and leaves you wanting more. This is book one so I look forward to the second. The plot is steady until the dramatic ending. Some of it was a little predictable at times but I enjoyed how it came together. I do think at times it lacked a little description. So I'm hoping more will be revealed in later books. Jules is very likeable and an easy lead. 4*

Gissy I read this one long time ago and I enjoyed it too. I still need to read book 2. 3y

I enjoyed the book, but it wasn‘t a favorite. The end felt a bit rushed—hurry up and move onto book two. I appreciate how light the romance was and I appreciate that this featured female characters who weren‘t motivated by romance. Writing was solid.

Read as a #bookspinbingo read. @TheAromaofBooks onto the next one!

Morning everyone! I have a package arriving today which means hanging around at home until it comes - so a good excuse for a reading day! I finished up Everless today... and was so disappointed. The premise is really cool - time is literally money - but the plot relies too heavily on inexplicably terrible decisions and secrets that are kept secret FOR NO REASON other than to advance the plot. And the characters are boring. Ugh.

Pretty typical YA fantasy book. But, I think it was better executed than many of its counterparts. I loved the blood-time currency concept and appreciated the focus on friendship over romance. I think I need to take a YA break soon, but I‘d definitely recommend this one over a lot of others I‘ve read recently.

Another blame it on Litsy read that didn't disappoint. I never would have picked up this book if I didn't see so many people talk about this book and the book that comes after it Evermore. It took me awhile to get into it but once I didn't I didn't want to put it down. Off to read Evernore and find out what happens to Jules!

Catching up to these before Christmas
#AdventRecommends by @emilyrose_x day 22.

If you like a good fantasy world with corrupt government, this might be a book for you. It takes the saying time is money quite literally.

The sequel is coming out really soon I think. So it might be a good time to give it a chance if you think you'll like it.

I absolutely LOVED the premise for the book. The idea that time is contained in blood, which is then extracted and turned into currency is fascinating. And the societal implications of such a world are endless. Admittedly, I read this during a really busy month for me, so I had a bit of trouble getting totally invested in the story, but with the release of Evermore I‘m really looking forward to re-entering this world.

I really liked this book! I enjoyed that there were a lot pieces to the puzzle throughout the story, but it wasn't necessarily obvious how they all went together and where the twists and turns of the story were going to take you.

My only complaint is that the ending left me with so many questions, and now I have to wait until December for the sequel. 😢😂

Wonderwoman89 @coffeeandbooks what is this book about? The cover looks good 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz Wow I agree on the cover! 6y
CoffeeNBooks @Wonderwoman89 It's about a society in which time is the currency, contained within peoples' blood. They can be bled in order to pay for things they can't afford, and their blood is converted to time coins. The only people who have enough time are the members of the nobility who reside at Everless. Jules and her father had to flee from Everless when Jules was younger, and while she thought she knew why, she later learns that there was more to it. 6y

Jules knows her father is getting sick and she is desperate enough to do anything to save him. Even if it means going against her father‘s wishes and volunteering to work as maid at the Everless estate. An estate that Jules grew up on, an estate that belongs to her old playmate, an estate that has secrets her father doesn't want her to find out.

A unique and strange enchanted story.
I was pleasantly surprise. I didn't wanted to read it but after being told many times to read it, I decided to give it a try.
I was so intrigued about where this book was going, I couldn't put it down.
I never saw the ending coming it was shocking and perfect.
The only thing I didn't like was how quick the story was told, i felt like there was missing pieces to puzzle but there will be a sequel.

Everless came out at the beginning of this year. I remember reading the plot of the book, and deciding then that I didn‘t want to read it. This is a world where time is currency. Tax collectors can extract years from your life through your blood, and the rich can live forever. I‘m really glad that I gave this book a chance. It‘s so good! I kind of spoiled myself by reading a few reviews, but the surprises at the end were still shocking.
