It may be the 21st century, but in a not-so-united kingdom the wounds of the Wars of the Roses have never healed. The rivalry between the Yorkish north and Lancastrian south has threatened to pull the nation apart for over 500 years. While the modern world struggles with fractures born of ancient conflict, Lady Amelia Brockett faces far more mundane problems. Known to her family as Meels, this youngest daughter of a Northern earl is having the Worst. Christmas. Ever. Dumped by her boyfriend and rejected from graduate school, her parents deem her the failure of the family. But when her older brother tries to cheer her with a trip to the races, a chance meeting with Arthur, the widowed, playboy Prince of Wales, offers Amelia the chance to change her life and Britains fortunes forever. Hunted by the press and haunted by Arthurs niece who fancies herself the kingdoms court witch Amelia finds herself adrift in a sea of paparazzi, politics, and prophecy. With few allies beyond her allergic-to-horses sister-in-law, her best friend who has a giant crush on the prince, and the cute young receptionist at Buckingham Palace that calls himself her Royalty Customer Service Representative, Amelia must navigate a perilous and peculiar course to secure Arthurs love and become A Queen from the North.

Mehso-so

Needed a #romantsy break this weekend so immersed myself in this romance. I was a bit disappointed as it was more a Lady Di and Prince Charles story than a War of the Roses story. The strife between the York and Lancaster Houses was hinted at but not fleshed out convincingly. The scenes with magic seemed awkward and out of place. The book did keep my interest and it did provide my favourite an HEA ending. I‘m not sure I would recommend it

Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings about this book. As a romance, it's better than a So-so, but this romance promised me War of the Roses style politics and it under delivered on that aspect. There were many things I liked about this book: the writing and characters are lovely and the regular-girl-becomes-princess aspect was delicious. But I'm disappointed in are the lack of any real setting detail on the York/Lancaster conflict that's meant to so important

Pickpick

Oh, I think I just love everything Racheline and Erin write. This was chock full of history and politics and duty and tradition, with a sweet romance and a side serving of witchcraft. Admittedly, there were times I wanted to lock Amelia and Arthur in a closet and tell them to TALK for God‘s sake, but the romance between them was really sweet. I liked that they were allowed to be imperfect, and that George was allowed to exist as she was.

We‘re having torrential rain tonight and it sounds spectacular hitting the roof (the hail not so much). I have the house to myself. The Rockies are holding their own against the Astros. And it‘s time to dive into this, which I‘ve had on my kindle since before my stroke.

This #contemporaryromance, set in an AU England still divided into the Yorkist/Lancastrian camps of the War of the Roses, was a fun and engaging read, even if I had trouble buying some historical elements of the worldbuilding. The heroine, Lady Amelia, is given the chance to help her people - the underdeveloped Yorkist North - by marrying the heir to the throne, the intriguing Prince Arthur. #LetterQ #LitsyAtoZ #romantsy

What if the Wars of the Roses had never ended? A #contemporary #royal #romance set in a not-so-united kingdom where York and Lancaster are still at odds. #royals
