Book 5 in the Kinsey Millhone Alphabet series from the New York Times bestselling author, Sue Grafton. "Anyone who knows me will tell you that I cherish my unmarried state. I'm female, twice-divorced, no kids and no close family ties. I'm perfectly content to do what I do... " It was two days after Christmas when Kinsey Millhone received the bank slip showing a credit for five thousand dollars. The account number was correct but Kinsey hadn't made the deposit. Then came the phone call and suddenly everything became clear. The frame-up was working and Kinsey was trapped...

I am really enjoying these Sue Grafton books. The hardest part is waiting for them to come through on my Libby. Great company during my outdoor chores!

So I ended up finishing this so quickly! The thing is .. I love Kinsey. My hubby had some online meetings so that meant I had to remain quiet and well reading is a perfect use of my time!!! Anyway loved this book (I am going to have to add another book for my #BookSpinBingo for October now (maybe use it as a free space)

So I had initially wanted to read this one next month for the #Scarathlon2020 #TeamSlaughter (@clwojick) book but.. I had a time lull of time where I finished all the books I had started and was gonna be waiting at the airport for my husband so... picked this one up early.

jb72 How are you liking those books? 4y
ElizaMarie @jb72 I really like them. Kinsey (the main character) is a badass. Also they are short and just a quick read that is oddly comforting (also my grandmother use to watch them so... it makes me feel closer my family.)

Clwojick Also, can we talk about your cute and spooky manicure?! Love it! 💅🏻 4y

AsYouWish Yay!!!! You are in Team Slaughter too!!!! Also love the nails!!!!! 4y

Kinsey finds herself framed, related to a case she‘s working on, and must clear her good name.

These have been good re-reads so far, but have noticed casual references to “black maids” answering the doors and such. I‘ll have to see if author Grafton and Kinsey improve in this aspect. I don‘t remember if they did. Although the entire series takes place in the 1980s, I‘m still where they were *actually* written in the 1980s. Two more in PB format!

Susanita I know that J was written in the early 90s, but I don‘t know what year she started. She probably published more often in those days than the two years apart where she was by Y. 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Susanita Yes. As her books became more complex, they took longer to be published. Let‘s see... “A” was published in 1982 and “G” in 1990. Re-reading them close together has been a different experience than reading them as they came out! 5y
muscogulus “E is for Evidence” was published in 1988 by Henry Holt & Co. Worldcat.org has the answer to almost all such questions! :) 5y
ValerieAndBooks @muscogulus good to know, and to know of this resource! 5y

Suet624 Moving right through these! Still enjoying them? 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Suet624 Yes...they‘re quick and undemanding reads, what I need at this time! I finished this one in one day 😲. Grafton‘s books get more complex as they go on, though. 5y

Mehso-so

So I read this one for #marchmysterymadness and I'm starting to feel like this series is getting a bit repetitive. I will continue soon but this one felt much like the last. 2.5/5 stars.

These two have been interesting to keep separate in my head. Two strong, independent, investors, both of whom are short but one lives in St Louis and the other in Santa Teresa/Santa Barbara. I keep expecting Kinsey to run into a vampire.

I enjoy the sarcastic humor Sue Grafton brings to Kinsey‘s personality. I also admire Kinsey‘s independence and self-reliance. 💪 This is a quick read - a mystery of arson and a wealthy family.

rubyslippersreads ❤️ Kinsey! 6y
Ruthiella I‘ve read about a third of this series. I have virtually no memory of any of the plots but I always have a strong image of Kinsey, her wrinkle-free black dress, her octogenarian crossword making neighbor etc. 😀 6y

Got through this one really quickly! Kinsey finds that $5000 was deposited in her bank account and gets swept up into a web of drama with a well respected family that she knows. I didn't see the resolution to this one coming at all! I am truly worried about the continued injuries that Kinsey ends up with though. LOL

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 These deal with a lot heavier subject matter than I remember. For whatever reason, I thought the beginning ones were a bit more “fluff”, and they definitely are not. I‘m truly glad they aren‘t, and I‘m in awe of what a fantastic author Sue Grafton was. 🙌🏻 She doesn‘t shy away from hard issues. Definitely potential triggers in this one, which I will put in a spoiler tagged comment.

PenguinInFlight A girl is sexually abused by her other brother for years and their mother chose to ignore it. 7y

I finished this just after hearing about Sue Grafton‘s death. I‘ve only read a handful of books in the series and wanted to get caught up before Z came out. I hadn‘t even finished re-reading the ones I read years ago before the announcement. I‘m so sad that Kinsey won‘t get her final book but looking forward to reading to Y, knowing it‘s the end.

Octoberwoman I didn‘t know she had died! I haven‘t read any of the series but have been collecting them for “some day”. 7y

I need to work on my secondhand emotions, I get far too upset about things. Someone is framing Kinsey and I am physically bothered by the unfairness that she feels. That said, this series is great and I love it.

queerbookreader This is 100% not related but I saw you've got this book on your to-read. It's super funny, and I'd classify it as a good summer read! So I recommend reading this 😊☀️ 9y
