Ruth was still amazing, but I really like Nelson too. Cathbad with his peculiar personality and friendship with Nelson was adorable.

This was cozy to read, even though bad things had happened. The crime had happened several decades ago and maybe that made it easier to read about.

This was even better than the prequel and I enjoyed reading.

I listened to this 2nd book in the Ruth Galloway series. Ruth is a forensic archaeologist. She helped with a missing person case.and barely escaped with her life a few months ago. Now, she is called to a site in Norfolk when a child's skull is found she is called in again.

Griffiths kept me interested in the story throughout. She had good character development with Ruth.

I'm enjoying this series even though it's feeling a little like Three Pines with the high per capita murder rate, and this installment is a little closer to a damsel-in-distress plot than I prefer. It's interesting how quickly the mystery part of the plot unfolds as compared with the relatively slow pace at which the interpersonal relationships develop. Is the "small world," running-into-people thing common on islands IRL or just in fiction?

I had to look up "baseball boots." I am quite familiar with Chuck Taylor high-tops, but I have never heard them referred to as "baseball boots." I've always thought of them as basketball shoes (that aren't really great for sportsing at all but are mostly just cool looking).

It‘s taking me awhile to get used to audio books. This was good but not as good as reading.

This is a difficult letter. I only had three books on my "Read" shelf at GoodReads. Of those, my favorite is The Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths.

I've recently booked our summer holiday with a few days in Suffolk then Norfolk so plan to take my 8th in the series of forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway as the books are set in that unique landscape. This was bk 2.

21/22 I looked forward to the second installment in the Dr Ruth Galloway serious. But I must admit this one missed the mark for me. So many very tenuous links, less character development then the first book and a story that overall was not very exciting. I wasn‘t dying to find out what was going to happen, which to my mind is what a murder mystery should do. Also not a great job on accents by the audio narrator which didn‘t help. 2.5⭐️

I didn‘t enjoy this one as much as the first. The mystery of the skeleton under the doorway was intriguing but the whole story kept getting overshadowed by the constant soapy angst between the main characters. Also, Ruth‘s senseless decisions kept annoying me and the constant references to her weight made me uncomfortable. A so-so read.

This is a reread, it has been years since I read the beginning of this series and I felt like remembering how the relationship between Ruth and Nelson develops. I will see how many I reread as will be depending on my library for these early books!

Once again, archeology figures prominently in this surprisingly scary mystery. Who is after Dr. Ruth Galloway this time? Someone seems to be trying to scare her to death, and DCI Nelson is working to solve the mystery and keep her safe. Roman Gods, missing children, a house with too many lives, dementia(?), human sacrifices, it‘s all here. A great series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I forgot how much i enjoyed the first ruth Galloway (2 yrs ago) when i read this book yesterday and couldn't put it down. I love the combination of ancient history, folk legend with police procedural and ruth is a great character. Here a child's skeleton is found as an old children's home is being demolished for flats whilst a roman site is also being excavated. Ruth meanwhile faces turmoil personally and tension with DI Nelson rises.

Even though this book felt like it followed a very similar formula to the first one I thoroughly enjoyed it. There's nothing like the palate cleansing goodness of a cosy mystery on vacation!

So beautiful here! Enjoying the scenery and reading = heaven 😍📚

Next up! I'm immersing myself in Ruth Galloway on my vacation. 🔍

This is a great series. Easy to read, but compelling crime novels, Griffiths‘ novels are enough of a deviation from popular tropes that they are interesting, but recognisable. Great summer reading.

Another good book in this series. Very interesting murder mystery with a solid plot. Really enjoying the developing relationship between Ruth and Detective Nelson!

A thumbs up for the second book in the Ruth Galloway series. My only question is whether the plots are going to all feel this similar. It works for one or two books, but it will start getting old (to me) if book 3 uses the same devices. But all in all, a smart and not gory mystery/thriller that I read in one day!

After a quick business trip yesterday and today, I am back at home and settled in with a book! So far I‘m enjoying the second installment in the Ruth Galloway series, though I keep nodding off, but it‘s not the book‘s fault.

I came across this in my library book. A previous reader has added missing punctuation in pen. I‘m curious if you guys have ever done that. I definitely notice typos, but if it‘s not my book I do not write in it, as a rule.

This is the perfect series for audio multi-tasking. 👍🏾 But, it‘s going to get quite silly if Nelson keeps coming to Ruth‘s rescue in every book. 😆

I‘m getting into the series…time to order the next one!

The one good thing about me screwing up my own schedule (wrote this mornings appointment in pen like a dope and she rescheduled weeks ago. I never corrected my planner!) is that I got a few chapters of this great book read. And since I‘ve hardly touched a page on over a week, I‘m really happy.
And now I‘m off to pick up a consolation sandwich for lunch, will finish mentally kicking myself for this mistake) and enjoy the day!

The 2nd book in this series was just as great as the first! I was at the edge of my seat towards the end and just couldn‘t put it down! I had to find out what happened!! The next book I immediately put on my TBR list. I‘m glad there are a lot more books to read in this series.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Well, I got hooked on this series pretty quickly! Finished the first two books in less than a week and started the third this morning. Dr. Ruth Galloway is a unique character. Her feelings about her pregnancy add an interesting dimension to the investigation of a young girl's death in this book. I enjoyed the first book quite a bit, but I think this one is even better.

Just finished this one. It's the second book in this series and I liked this one better than the first one.
Somehow this book made me like the characters better than the first☺️

Our little man is watching Teletubbies, so I should be able to read a bit before dinner 😊

Weekends always end better when it's spent at the camp... with turkey dinner. Love this place. So cozy.

A stormy, rainy day and night. Laying in bed tonight catching up on some reading, listening to the rain fall and the wind howl... and yes that's a baby toy. It holds my scent to keep the little one calm... she will be here in a few days. Cannot believe I'm at the end of my pregnancy. So tonight, I'm relaxing, because we all know those days are numbered. But it will be so worth it. Thanks to @Shemac77 for the loan of books!

I'm enjoying this series very much. The local locations are of course an added bonus for me. The storyline was good and intriguing. I like DR Ruth Galloway. She's very similar to Temperance Brennan by Kathy Reich's though she interacts with people better. I'm curious to see how the series develops now she's about to be a mum. Now to find the next book.

Definitely will not hit 24 hrs but I'm still plugging away! Book 2 finished! Solid book! Great following after the Crossing Places. I love Ruth Galloway and the things she says. 😀 #24in48 #readathon
