This is a amazing book with beautiful artwork and a amazing story about a newsboy that is actually a girl and she meets a man that‘s really good at inventing even making a robot.

Another Middle Grade book. This one is a graphic novel about a girl pretending to be a boy who meets a friend who is not what he appears to be. The graphics are beautiful and the story is unexpected. It segues to Volume 2 and I want to see what happens! Another series started! Oh my. #100YEARS100BOOKS #BookSpinBingo #10 (Another bingo!) #BFC21 #SERIES2021 #MGMarch #MarvellousMarch
I love the art style of tis comic, and the characters and story are a delight. It's also a fun read if you're familiar with or interested in newspaper history, because it draws on real United States historical contexts. #genderexploration #LGBTQ #LGBT #LGBTcharacter #authordiversity #newspaperhistory #newsboys #disguisedasaboy #science #mediahistory #robots #discrimination
Good story about a girl fitting in as one of the boys to sell newspapers and an even better ending to see her reveal herself as a newsgirl to her peers. Blue knows what it takes to be a true friend and she did that for Crow and didn‘t stop when others told her differently.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spending the day on the bus is good for my tbr. NewsPrints moved a little too fast for it's own good, but it was still a ton of fun with an interesting story and characters, and the plot twist genuinely surprised me. I would recommend it, and I look forward to reading the sequel.
Really liked the art in this one and such a nice story about being true to yourself. The world building in this was pretty cool!
(1st of August)
Thematically this book has A LOT going for it. I‘d have liked to have had a stronger connection with the characters. It felt a tad heavy handed at times. My graphics obsessed 10 yo DNF.
NEWSPRINTS tackles some pretty hefty topics, including military activities, journalistic integrity, and a person's right to choose how they'll live their life. Unfortunately, Xu doesn't delve deep enough for me. Her characters' motivations are muddled, and I never got a clear sense of who the side players were beyond their names and jobs.
Younger kids--ie, the target audience--may have a different experience, but I wouldn't press this on them.
This has a lot going for it. A girl undercover as a newsie has a lot of teaching potential for the little ones. Blue is a likable protagonist. It just fell flat for me.
Well.. this was cute, but a little incoherent and heavy-handed for me. Middle school anime feels...

I'm a #saturdaylibrarian tomorrow, for the first time in a while tomorrow, so finishing up the night with this.
Blue is disguised as a newsboy in order to make a living. She struggles with the desire to want to be who she truly is...a newsgirl. Luckily she has some pretty supportive people in her life. She also really wants to help Crow, which I think will be the basis of the sequel.
Just getting into graphic novels and Newsprints is next on my tbr. War, gender constraints, family conflicts, friendship, seems like an action packed story!
Have you guys read this one?

A great historically based graphic novel about wartimes, women's roles, and what it means to be human. Huzzah for feminism!
A beautiful middle-grade graphic novel about Blue, a newsboy who's hiding her gender, Jack, an inventor with a secret, and Crow, a mysterious kid. This probably would have been better stretched out between a few volumes so that the world-building could be more fully realized, but it's still fun and well-drawn.
A really cute and quick read. I really liked the art style, whereas the story was....well, not exactly ho-hum but simply average. Really takes advantage of the steampunk aesthetic. #newsprints #ruxu
Loved the illustrations. Story went in a different direction than I thought. Still not sure if I liked it.
Ok, any newsies and I'm there. I couldn't quite grasp the setting, but it's kinda steampunky and features some quirky inventions. Some of the illustrations are really lovely and looked nice as an ebook. #mommyreads #comics #graphicnovel #ebook #steampunk
This was a fun comic. It jumped around a little, but the art was nice and the story was cool.
Comics are often my #palatecleanser between other books. Last night I had to separate my comics from non as the height of my #librarystack was getting lethal. I hope I can knock a few of these out over my upcoming long weekend! #FeistyFeb
