San Francisco: A Book of Numbers | Ashley Evanson
18 posts | 2 read
Can you count one cable car going down a hill, five clouds over the Golden Gate Bridge, and six boats in the bay? Children will love learning about numbers all over San Francisco in this gorgeous board book!

Jace got very excited for story time today. I like this series that teaches kids about famous landmarks while also teaching something fundamental like numbers, colors etc. 4⭐️

San Francisco and Vancouver are #sofaraway from here (Yorkshire, England) and are the furthest places I‘ve been....

San Francisco (5,186 miles) is quite a bit further than Vancouver (4,533 miles), which surprised me a bit!

It‘s long time since I‘ve been to either but I still keep all of the guide books as a memento, particularly as my honeymoon was in Vancouver.

Cinfhen I‘ve always wanted to go to Vancouver 💙 6y
squirrelbrain @Cinfhen - it was waaaay back in 1998 that we went... although we did revisit for our 5th anniversary. It‘s still rather a long time ago. My brother is going in a few weeks (as well as Seattle and Alaska!) so I‘m very jealous! 6y
Cinfhen Your brother‘s trip sounds like LOTS OF FUN 6y

#offtopic Dear California Littens, this summer we‘ll be travelling through the US for a month. Our first destination will be San Francisco. I would love to know what places to see or avoid in the city, where to eat, sleep etc. I try to avoid the typical tourists traps.
If you have inside information and recommendations I‘d love to hear from you! Thanks so much! ❤️

Bookwormjillk Sounds like a great trip! 6y
SailorMoon I have relatives there! I remember liking the small town of Sausalito which is really close to SFO! 6y
TrishB Sounds great 👍🏻 enjoy. 6y

BookNAround We walked the Golden Gate Bridge through a program run by the library. It was fascinating and informative. Also, Alcatraz May be a big tourist destination but it‘s totally worth it. And make sure to get breakfast at the Farmer‘s Market at the Ferry Building (can‘t remember what days it runs). They have some amazing local cheese there if that‘s your thing (it is mine). 6y
Jas16 San Francisco is my home and I am happy to help in any way. You can email me at himynameisjen@hotmail.com 6y
BarbaraBB @Jas16 I didn‘t know! Thank you so much, I‘ll email you! 6y
Kalalalatja Sounds like an amazing trip 🙌 6y
Tanisha_A Wow! Have a lovely time! 6y
AlaMich You probably know, but avoid Fisherman‘s Wharf. If you want to see some beautiful coastline, Pt. Reyes National Seashore is not far north of the city. Alcatraz is touristy but is also very interesting, if you‘re into that kind of thing. 6y
ValerieAndBooks My home state!! I‘m not sure of your full itinerary but if you have time, visit Cannery Row (edit: in Monterey) a couple hours from SF. John Steinbeck ‘s old stomping grounds although it‘s a bit more touristy now than when I lived in CA several years ago. Monterey has an amazing aquarium and my BIL was a scientist there many years ago. Are you going to the east coast too 😉? (edited) 6y
ValerieAndBooks Also be sure to keep all valuables with you when in the city of SF, if you rent a car — they‘ve had a serious car break-in problem for some time now. I have family nearby there. 6y
BooksForEmpathy Hello! You can email me too. San Francisco is such a joy and I love living here! Would be happy to point you to my favorite places. Let me know what you‘re into: food, coffee, walking around, museums, etc. 6y

BarbaraBB @SailorMoon Sausalito looks really nice! Thanks! I marked it in my map 💕 6y
BarbaraBB @BookNAround That is very good to know about Alcatraz. I was doubting whether I should go there but @jas16 says the same and I will try to get tickets asap. The Farmer‘s Market sounds great too! 6y
BarbaraBB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you for tagging @Jas16 💕 6y
BarbaraBB @Jas16 I‘ll send you an email to thank you properly but want to let you know that I loved your mail and spend last night tracking all places you mentioned. I am so happy with all your suggestions! ❤️😘 6y
BarbaraBB @AlaMich I didn‘t know but thank you, I will now. Pt. Reyes sounds great too, we will be driving north to Oregon afterwards so I‘ll mark it in my planning. Thank you!! ❤️ 6y
BarbaraBB @ValerieAndBooks It looks great but we will continue north (towards Oregon) and then indeed to the East coast (although we will cover Utah - Illinois by train). From Chicago we‘ll drive to the East coast, to finish in DC. All suggestions about where to go there are welcome too 😘 (edited) 6y
BarbaraBB @BooksForEmpathy I will! Thank you so much! 💜 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BarbaraBB you‘re welcome!! She‘s awesome 💗 6y
BarbaraBB @BooksForEmpathy Thank you so much for being so helpful. Now I can‘t wait to come to SF! I‘ll send you an email tomorrow! 😘 6y
cocomass I also am happy to send recommendations!! Most of mine have to do with foods/books/events in the city, as well as great walking routes. You can email me for recs cocomass@gmail.com 6y
BarbaraBB @cocomass Thank you so much! I sent you an email and am looking forward to them 😘 6y

A book haul from an old book store (literally!) going out of business. Just happened to see the "Open" sign on my way to Powell's, ran in, picked these off the shelf, and wished the owner a happy retirement!

Leftcoastzen I have that Horace Greeley!😁 7y

Day three in California found me exploring San Francisco. What a city! Discovered Alley Cat Books in the Mission district, and what a find it was! Cool art gallery at the back of the store, and displays to entice readers and non-readers alike. (Also found one of the best yarn shops I‘ve ever entered, in the Castro district.) My best friend, born and raised in SF, was my chauffeur and tour guide! #indiebookstore

tammysue Sounds like you‘re having a fabulous time!! 😁 7y

MuddyPuddle @samplergal We decided we‘d just drive by slowly so I could take a photo because we‘d never be able to find a parking spot – I was meant to go in, because someone pulled out just as we were approaching! 7y

My husband has been working in San Fransisco for the last week and a bit (which is a long way from the south east corner of Australia where we live). The kids requested more Lego, I always request bookmarks. He got me two gorgeous Art Deco inspired ones plus this retro poster. I love them!!

Today's independentseveryday pick is San Francisco's Book Passage - because SF has so many great bookstores, but this one is in the Ferry Building, my favorite place in the city. Browse books, buy books, then hit up Cowgirl Creamery for cheese, plus Boccalone for meats. Ahhhh. #bookstore #bookstorelove #bookstagram #authorsofinstagram #ferrybuilding #sanfrancisco #getindie

Suet624 I love your posts about the indie bookstores. Thank you so much for highlighting them. And the Ferry Building!!! Such a fun place. 7y
