JanuarieTimewalker13 I haven‘t read any of these, but I‘ve been wanting to read an SA Cosby book for a while! Based on titles, I‘d also like to read The Fortune Teller. (edited) 3w
Dragon Thanks @JanuarieTimewalker13 💚🐉 I liked Razorblade Tears. The Fortune 🔮 Teller caught my eye- I liked the name and the look of the cover 3w
JanuarieTimewalker13 You‘re welcome!! I have her book The Memory Painter, for years, which I still haven‘t read. Maybe this year…. 3w

Apparently there is no age group Nina LaCour can't write for? This transitional chapter book for ages 7-10 was very cute and charming, with a realistic feisty little 9-year-old protagonist named Ella. Ella is the self-imposed expert on the apartment house in San Francisco (and its inhabitants) where she lives with her two moms. Lovely depiction of community and queer parents! Sweet illustrations as well. #QueerBooks

Detailed description of the disaster following quake and fire of April 18, 1906 in San Francisco. There were a lot of blowing up of buildings during the fire and shooting of civilians, but it did bring people together for a while no matter the differences of class or race.

Good account but TMI if you just want 1906 SF events only. A lot on plate tectonics, new geology science, and details on the Richter Scale. A bigger quake is coming at any time!

Starting to read about great earthquake of 1906.

bibliothecarivs I should read that. My wife's great-grandfather lived through it. 4mo
KCofKaysville @bibliothecarivs Hoping it is good. It may give you TMI on tectonics etc. I heard the old movie with Clark Gable has some good effects in it. 4mo

I thought the mc and her best friend were well drawn characters. I enjoyed the epilogue, it‘s interesting how we look back on friendships in our lives and often see them differently and more clearly. I think of Bob Dylan‘s line
‘Ain‘t it hard when you discover that he really wasn‘t where it‘s at .. ‘
The good writing kept me going until the end , but I felt disconnected from the book. A pick/so-so.

lauraisntwilder Disconnected is a good word for this one. I really enjoyed it, when I read it a couple years ago, but I almost felt like a voyeur. Their lives and mine were so drastically dissimilar. 5mo
Tamra This sounds thought provoking. At least for me, it came as a surprise to discover in adulthood most friendships have seasons. So different than childhood perceptions & expectations. 5mo
BarbaraBB Great review though. I think I felt similar about 5mo

Cathythoughts @lauraisntwilder Yes I really enjoyed it too.. I could identify with being young and all the over thinking and uncertainty of that time. The disconnect was more that I never felt close to the characters at all. Interesting to hear your thoughts 👍🏻 5mo
Cathythoughts @Tamra I know , me too. I suppose we change and our friends change too in different ways … Sometimes we have to let friends go ( that came as a shocker for me I remember) friendships end. But some stand the test of time. Seasons ! As you so wisely say 👍🏻❤️ (edited) 5mo
Cathythoughts @BarbaraBB Interesting! During the first half of the book I thought I‘d be looking up her other books… now I‘m not sure. We‘ll see. I was glad to finish it. 5mo
