The gingerbread man is one of my favorite stories to hear around Christmas time and there are so many fun retellings of it. This retelling really captures the excitement of the gingerbread mans escape and his adventures. This book also has a recipe on the back cover to make gingerbread men of your own!

The original story was published in 1875 and is traditional literature. In the tale, a little old woman and man decide to bake a gingerbread man. Once they place the gingerbread man in the oven, he magically comes to life and leaps out of the oven, running away before they can catch him. As he escapes, he taunts the old couple with the famous quote “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!“

I think this book sends children the message of trusting others, the gingerbread man thinks he can outsmart and trust everyone and it ends up getting him into a tricky situation with the fox

The gingerbread man by Jim Aylesworth was such a cute tale about the original story of the gingerbread man. It was such a cute read for little kids. It was about a couple who made a gingerbread and is soon as he popped out of the oven he ran from numerous different people. I think children would think the story is funny. Definitely a book I would choose to read to my class.

This book uses repetition really well. The gingerbread man just keeps running away from people and then the kids can go along with his poem? Chant? Song? I dont know what you call it.

Traditional literature and was written in 1998. This book is a funny classic of an old couple baking a gingerbread man that came to life. The gingerbread man ran away from them, the butcher, a cow, and a pig. He finally to a fox and told that he couldn't caught him either, but the fox acted like he couldn't hear him until he pounced on him and ate him. The theme of this story is to be careful and smart when boasting about something.

This NYTB illustrated children‘s book, TL story is perfect for CR because of the repetitive lines and songs that the gingerbread man sings. The classic story of the cookie who runs away and tricks many people/animals only to be tricked and eaten by a fox in the end is one that children will enjoy for the humor and repetitive language. It is also great around the holidays when many families may be enjoying these cookies at home! #ucflae3414f17

CaseyL http://www.ayles.com/gingerbread2.html the author‘s website includes many classroom applications for this TL. UDL 1.3 offer alternatives for visual information can be used with this story because of the descriptive language and the fact that the students are CR aloud with teacher support. EL 34 de-emphasize speed and emphasize accuracy is used during this CR as the whole class reads slowly and accurately to support students in their fluency. 7y
JordanD Wow I haven't seen this book in a long time! I love the idea in the resource for changing the setting- that would be great to use in a classroom to help students understand the story and apply it to a setting they know well! Now I really want cookies- great review! 7y
LaurenR So fun, especially around the holidays! The website provides many techniques of how you could use this book for setting & characters. Another thing you could do is make cookies with the book on the week you use it. (edited) 7y
DrSpalding I want cookies too! 🍪I enjoyed cooking with my students. This is also an excellent book for storytelling however choral reading is a good strategy to note. 7y

'twas the week before Christmas break, and all through my classroom...I'm just trying to survive. I'm doing themed days this week, and today was Gingerbread Day. I read The Gingerbread Man aloud to the kiddos, using what can only be described as my best Mr. Bill voice for the "Run, run, as fast as you can..." parts. and we ate gingerbread cookies, of course. #TeachersOfLitsy #booknsnack
