The small, old western town of Timberton, Montana, has not been the same since resident chef and artist Mist brought her unique, new age flavor to the area. When guests arrive at the Timberton Hotel for the holidays, they bring worries, fears and broken hearts, unaware that Mist has a way of working magic in people's lives. Will old-fashioned time spent together, exquisite food, conversation and a snowball or two offer guests a chance to trade sadness for hope? One thing is certain: no matter how cold winter's grip is on each guest, no one leaves town without a warmer heart.

This may have been a pick if I‘d read it vs listening to the audio. The narration was so stiff and bad. Mist is a strange character. I may give book 2 a shot to see if the series could be for me, but not right now.

TheSpineView I agree, the narration can make or break the story. 11mo

peanutnine Mist was a strange character. I also felt like this was a spin off series, and didn't know enough backstory 11mo
TheAromaofBooks This one didn't really work for me when I read it last year. I think I might be broken, because I honestly kept wondering if Mist was just smoking weed or something. She was wayyy too unflappable 😂 @peanutnine - I also felt like I had jumped into the middle of a series, as though I was already supposed to know all the characters. It was kind of disorienting. 11mo
Read4life @peanutnine @TheAromaofBooks Exactly. I stopped listening to make sure I had book 1. Then I looked to see if it was a spinoff. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of the story. 11mo
Andrew65 Well done on finishing it. 🎄🎄🎄 11mo

This was a cozy little read set at a small town bed and breakfast. Great cast of characters as they come together for the holiday season and work through their different troubles.

Here's my last read of 2021. This was a strange story that did not really have a plot. It was about people, strangers and old acquaintances, spending Christmas at an inn in a small town. The people arrived sad or stressed but by Christmas, they were happy. Don't read this book on an empty stomach! The majority of it was descriptions of the meals being served. 3⭐ #WinterGames2021 #teamgamesleighers @StayCurious #BookSpinBingo #20 @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks I didn't really connect with this one. I found Mist to be a bit annoying haha 3y
vonnie862 @TheAromaofBooks I can see that. I didn't care much for Mist. I was trying to figure out if there was going to be a plot or not. There wasn't. Lol 3y
TheAromaofBooks Right?? I got to the end and was like... hmm. 😂 3y

Another soft pick, but this one is more on me than the book. I got this one as a free ebook a while back. It's a novella and even shorter than I anticipated because the last 30% or so of the book is actually recipes. Not much really happens in this story - some people come and stay at an inn. An old lady owns the inn and a younger woman helps her run it. The younger woman is sort of magical and floaty and literally, because I'm broken, I kept ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) wondering if she was smoking weed, because she kind of had a chill surfer dude vibe except without the “whoa dude“ jargon. 😂 I can see a lot of people finding Mist to be this inspiring, thoughtful character, but she low-key annoyed me with her constant life philosophies, her “silent footsteps,“ and the way literally nothing flapped her at all. A perfectly pleasant little read, but I don't see myself delving into the rest of the series. 3y
Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 (edited) 3y

LitStephanie Mist sounds super annoying to me! 3y

TheSpineView Fantastic! 📖📚😊 3y
TheAromaofBooks @LitStephanie - She just didn't feel like a real person at all. She's this strange floaty presence that always knows what everyone needs before they need it and does strange things like studying a stranger's eyes and deciding that they are “patina“ which isn't even exactly a color haha It was a really short story so she didn't bother me that much, but I wasn't interested in reading an entire series with her at the center! 3y
keys_on_fire I‘ve been reading this too, as you know, and I feel like Mist is completely unnecessary. I‘d rather Betty be the MC… 3y
LitStephanie @TheAromaofBooks good thing it was short. Yeah, patina is a finish not a color. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @keys_on_fire - I felt the same way! 3y

These are the cookie recipes in the tagged book. I recommend just buying the ebook ($2.99) because it‘s an excellent holiday read (and there‘s more in the series)! But if there‘s a recipe you just have to have let me know and I‘ll post it. #wintergames2021 #mistletoemaniacs @Clwojick

This is a splendid, feel-good holiday read. Guests, with their various sad issues, come to the Moonglow for Christmas. This year, Mist has come to cook and help run the inn and to treat the guests to her own kind of magic to help them face the new year. Recipes included!!

Over the last 2 years, I fell in love with slice of life anime. I love their focus on characters' lives in an often gentle manner. I also love their frequent focus on detailed portrayals of food and backgrounds. I mention my new appreciation of slice of life anime because that is exactly what this novella is-- a highly relaxing, cozy, festive slice of life with no traditional plot structure. I ♥️ it! #Holiday #Christmas #SliceOfLife #Relaxing

Kenyazero There are also a dozen or so cookie recipes in the back! 4y

I had trouble getting into this one - not a lot happening and couldn‘t connect with the main character. 🎄🎅🏼📚 #merryreaders #wintergames @Clwojick

eeclayton Is this another Paige McKenzie story? 4y
Charityann @eeclayton I don‘t think so. The main character‘s name is Mist. 4y
eeclayton @Charityann Then it must be a spin-off, I remember a character called Mist in a PM mystery. My impression of the author was, by the way, that she'd make a better travel writer than novelist. 4y

It was heartwarming and simple. I like that there are cookie recipes in the back—looking forward to trying a couple of those. Although some of the savory dishes mentioned in the book sounded tasty and those recipes weren‘t in the back. Darn.

Not my favorite so far, but it was very Christmasy and cute. The main character was just a tiny bit too perfect for me. But then again, so are most people in holiday Hallmark movies. As long as it‘s full of Christmas warmth, it gets a pass from me. 😉🎄

These are all part of a bigger series that I haven‘t read, but I‘m an absolute sucker for Christmas themed books and movies, so I‘m excited to read them! Im starting the first one today! 😊❤️🎄❄️

needleminding I've never read any Christmas themed books. It never even occurred to me to sell them out! Litsy is changing that. 😊 7y
GypsyKat @jaimeisbionic I just LOVE Christmas! So anything Christmasy usually gets me excited! 😄🎄 7y

GypsyKat @jaimeisbionic I knew what you meant 😊 And I don‘t know if I have a favorite... A Christmas Carol stands out, and Little Women is always nice to reread during the holidays. But I‘ve read so many Christmas books over the years that they start to blend lol 7y
GypsyKat @litenthusiast I have a shelf full of paperback holiday themed books that I can‘t make myself part with🎄 7y
needleminding @GypsyKat I gotcha 😀 I haven't actually read A Christmas Carol so I'll start with that one, I think. 7y
GypsyKat @jaimeisbionic Needless to say it‘s very old fashioned. Dickens isn‘t everyone‘s cup of tea, but I grew up on it so I love it. 😊🎄 7y
