Starting off #24B4Monday with Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss! I‘m also reading it for #ReadYoutSign because it was published on August 12, 1954 - my number is 12 and 1954 is my birth year (now you know, I‘m old!) Anyway, let‘s get started!

Andrew65 Good luck 😊👍 4y

1. Sometimes I do. I bought Melmoth The Wanderer because the cover caught my attention, but I also bought the black penguin edition of Nicholas Nickleby which is easily one of the ugliest books I have
2. I bought Little Women, A Passage to India, Moby Dick and Horton Hears a Who all together
3. The radio in the morning
4. I keep hitting the snooze button every 10 minutes from the first alarm until "fuck I'm going to be late"

The boy chose Horton Hears a Who for his literary pumpkin. It's been his favorite since before he was one. He's eight now. 🎃🐘

Just returned from a cruise with my grandson. We went to a Dr Seuss parade and listened to a reading of Horton Heard a Who! Does this count as my first read of the year? 😉

The other half of Dr. Seuss‘s extremist screed in this pro-life Horton bilogy. This one nestles easily into Horton Hatches an Egg. Here, Horton argues “ A person‘s a person no matter how small!” When applied to persons of microscopic proportions, of course, it can only be interpreted as meaning “Life begins at conception!”

Also, if it‘s not an allegory for pregnancy, I can‘t figure out what kind of trouble The Whos are actually in.

ChilaArlyne Dr. Seuss actually sued the prolife movement for using that line 7y
lauren.lerner Dr. Seuss was pro choice. He sued the “prolife” movement for misusing his words — particularly the “a person‘s a person no matter how small” which the anti-woman forced birthers really love to co opt. 7y
ellenorange I think it's fairly commonly understood to be an allegory for the rights of minorities and also as a condemnation of the bombing of Hiroshima. Dr Seuss never publicly gave his opinion on abortion and the book was written 20 years before it was legalised in the US. 7y
SandyW @ChilaArlyne @lauren.lerner @ellenorange Wow. Thank you all for that interesting info. I had no idea, having only read these as a child. @Yossarian Thanks for prompting such great dialog. 7y

Busted this out to read to Rosemary. I have to get more #picturebooks in French! The amazing thing is, it still rhymes! The translator did an awesome job. Rosemary seemed confused but I think she liked the French sounds. I will have to read her more French books! (I have maybe 10 picture books in French) #kidlit

Daisydo I've got a French Christmas book, I'd happily let you borrow it! 8y
