The Watchmaker's Daughter
The Watchmaker's Daughter: Book 1 of the Glass and Steele series | C.J. Archer
REVIEWS "It was wonderful! Full of mystery, intrigue, a hint of romance and of course the witty humour." ????? Google Play reviewer Cindy Jean "This is a great read with many twists and turns that are extremely interesting. The characters are excellent." ????? Google Play reviewer Cherry Malone "I absolutely loved this book! Can not wait for the next book in the series. The characters are easily lovely and the plot is one of a kind! Super excited for this new series!" ????? Google Play reviewer Lori Yedor DESCRIPTION India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fianc took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who'll accept her - an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he's ill. Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won't tell India why any old one won't do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London's best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she's certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she'll find herself unemployed and homeless again - and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life. With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER'S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books. A fun mystery. I‘d like to learn a bit more about the watchmaker stuff…but am looking forward to book 2.

Since I‘ve been reading these books, I‘ve been remiss in posting them for #serieslove2023. So here‘s the status of my reading in both of CJ Archer‘s series about the Glass family. I‘ve been listening to the audiobooks, which I find easier to fit into my schedule. So I‘m not abandoning my other series, The Chronicles of St Mary‘s, it‘s just harder to fit those into my reading schedule.

And I‘m aware, there are many more in the first series. Yay!

TheSpineView So many and not enough time!💜📚💜📖 1y
Read-y_Picker I am soooo hooked on the Glass and Steele series. Was going to start Crooked Lane but decided to do the whole first instead. They‘re fantastic on audio! 1y

I‘ve decided to start this series as I‘m embarking on a south Texas road trip, for work, for the next four days. Ample listening time. I‘ve been enjoying the Glass Library series but I‘m caught up with the two books that are out. So I‘m starting book 1 in this related series tomorrow

KathyWheeler I‘m on the second book in this series right now. 1y
SassyBookworm I loved this series!! I listened to all them as well! Hope you enjoy!! 1y

I thought right away that I was going to hate this book, but gave it a chance. I was mistaken! I enjoyed this- it was a fun journey. Like fantasy in historical settings? Give this a try! I did find myself rolling my eyes (shouted angrily) at the main character a few times in the last quarter of the book because she became rather unintelligent as she tried to come up with explanations for that mysterious watch...

This one has gotten mixed reviews which surprises me. This was a very enjoyable audiobook for when you‘re feeling down or overwhelmed.

I believe it‘s a series but I‘ve no idea how many volumes.

It‘s current a FREE borrow from Hoopla which is why I gave it a go; It was a good call on my part.

Currently obsessed with this series. The audiobooks are really good. Matt and India remind me of Thomas and Audrey Rose in Kerri Maniscalco‘s Stalking Jake the Ripper series. I can‘t wait to see where these two end up! Getting ready to start book seven.

This was a fun little fantasy book. The first in a series and pretty light on the fantasy but I enjoyed the characters. The mystery wasn't the best but this was more world building so I'm hoping for better mysteries in the future books. #audiobook #scribd #fantasy

So I finished the first book of the Glass and Steele series..... I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read the second one. It definitely ended leaving me intrigued and wanting to know more about the characters. I've already checked hoopla and the second book is on there but I much prefer physical books..... We shall see if my impatience wins out over preference.

Got a call from the library while I was at work yesterday. Listened to the message right before bed. My interlibrary loan came through. All excited this morning that The Blood of Olympus had been found very quickly. Went to pick up said book today. Came home with this instead. I didn't even remember/realize I'd put in a loan request for this!!!! I'm pleasantly surprised / still slightly disappointed no Percy Jackson conclusion.

julesG But the Blood of Olympus is the Heroes of Olympus series, not Percy Jackson. 5y
Momma_Jo @julesG Yeah... But Percy's in it so I call it the second Percy Jackson series. It's got all my favorite characters from the original Percy Jackson series and a whole slew of new ones to root for too!!! 5y
julesG Oh, didn't know that. Thanks! 5y
Momma_Jo @julesG Welcome! It's worth the read! Well what I've read so far is worth the read. Really hoping the library can find it through interlibrary loan. 5y

The #audiobook narrator is great! She does the MC's upper working class English accent pretty well, as well as the American accents of the other protagonists.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

It's a paranormal romance, very light on romance (which you can tell by how I finished it), set in Victorian London, featuring a talented young watchmaker fallen on hard times and a dark, dashing American stranger with a magical watch. The pace is sometimes too leisurely and too many plot points are left unexplained (Buy the next, dear reader!) but for a Kindle freebie it's pretty good.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are fantastic and diverse. The story moves at a quick pace and draws you in immediately. There was a lot of humor, but also enough twists and turns to keep me guessing about the outcome, the characters, and the overall story. It was at least a quarter of the way through before it was completely clear it was more of a fantasy novel. While it works alone, I will definitely look into the rest of this series

It‘s alright — it‘s a light mystery with a touch of paranormal, a healthy dollop of romance, and a historical setting. Some of the twists in the plot can be seen coming a mile away, but the characters are charming and there are some unusual and interesting details. A light read, but a fairly good one. However I am not in a hurry to keep reading.

I had high expectations for this book. It started off really promising, despite the slow pace, but near the end, everything just felt really rushed and undeveloped. I wanted to be part of India's adventure in delving into the world of magic, but the build-up was insufficient, and the reader is just plunged into magic without enough details. Too bad because I loved India as a character!

Loved this book and can't wait for the next in the series to come out. The romantic tension between the two main characters leaves you wanting to keep reading.

Courtney3 It's a quick read, keeps you interested enough by revealing without telling, but left a lot of unanswered questions that made the ending feel abrupt. It is right on the edge of pick and so so for me. 8y
Tmcconaughy I live these books that take you for a quick ride and then leave you waiting for the next book 8y
