Love Beyond Body, Space, and Time is a collection of indigenous science fiction and urban fantasy focusing on LGBT and two-spirit characters. These stories range from a transgender woman undergoing an experimental medication that enables her to live the lives of her maternal ancestors to young lovers separated through decades and meeting in the future. These are stories of machines and magic, love and self-love.

A mix of stories exploring gender identity and queer love, heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measure. Don't skip the intros!
Favourites:
Legends are Made, not Born: touching, welcoming
The Boys Who Became the Hummingbirds: 😭
Né Le! : Surprising no one, Darcie Little Badger's contribution included animals and was absolutely wonderful
Valediction at the Star View Motel: 🕸️♥️

⚠️racism, violence motivated by intolerance

This was the original March pick for Indigenous Reading Circle but it was discovered to be out of print. I took advantage of interlibrary loan to read it anyway.

First of all, I skipped the Gwen Benaway story after learning she had lied about an indigenous background.

My favorite stories were ALIENS by Richard Van Camp, LEGENDS ARE MADE, NOT BORN by Cherie Dimaline, and NÉ LE! by Darcie Little Badger.

This is an absolutely fantastic collection of stories. Loved each and every one so much, but if I had to pick a couple of favs they would be Né łe and The Boys Who Became Hummingbirds. I highly recommend everyone checking this collection out if you're a lover of sci-fi, speculative fiction, or short stories.

I‘m currently on vacation after my first week of being back in the office, and the count is in! 120 books read during my Coronacation! I can‘t believe that I‘ve been ‘off‘ since March. I remember saying to a coworker that if I didn‘t read at least 10 books with us closed, I‘d be upset. Little did I know that it would last so long. 😮😳📚

Definitely slowed down on reading this week, so my #bookreport is kind of smallish. Pictured are the books I finished this week. Standouts were the tagged and Dead Djinn I‘m Cairo (and Smooth Criminals was pretty fun).

Crazeedi I loved listening to walk in the woods, I laughed out loud! 5y
MidnightBookGirl I love how this is a slow week for you! Smooth Criminals looks like I need it on my shelf! 5y
Peddler410 I have the tagged book on my curry book order for my schools. 5y

Today is book club day and due to holidays our group did a collection of short stories so we could skip around if necessary. I read the whole book but I wrote down my faves. Finished just in time too!

Oh, Journey's End. You're not very good, are you? The movie writers ignore the climatic choice Wes maked and everyone would like to ignore the Indigenous botch job (and I'm including Voyager in this sad shake of my head). Do better, franchise!
Tagged book is one that has been on my tbr for awhile! I hear nothing but good things.

khooliha Also, I feel some kind of way about conflating being Indigenous with colonizing a planet, but I'd need to rewatch the ep to get my hands around the right words. 5y
khooliha I also acknowledge that, as a white person, I may be coming at this feeling in an entirely inappropriate way. 5y

This was a really enjoyable short story collection. It is unique and significant in its subject matter while also just making for a fun speculative fiction collection. My favourite stories were the ones from David Alexander Robertson and Darcie Little Badger. Definitely recommended.

Really great stories! They're not all sci fi; I'd call this rather a collection of speculative fiction. A variety of writers from different nations (Anishinaabe, Lipan Apache, Cree, Cherokee, & more!) & two-spirit, trans and queer identities. Favs: "Ne Le" about a veterinarian moving to Mars and falling in love with the transport pilot; "Imposter Syndrome" about a non-citizen/alien becoming human; "Perfectly You" about virtual reality gone wrong.

What an opening to a short story!

Fantastic! There are times when I read Sci Fi and I am astounded by new ideas & concepts. This was one of those experiences but enhanced even more because it's Native. A few of these stories made me feel like I was sitting & listening to one of my grandma's or another tribal elder's stories. It's wonderful to find books like that - I don't often do. And all of this combined with queer characters and ideas. 👏🏽 My only complaint is I want more! ❤️

BookishFeminist Just bought this the other day and can't wait to get to it! Even more excited knowing you enjoyed it 😀 8y

Finally I managed to finish this short story anthology today and highly recommend it. It not only contains SciFi, but also other kind of speculative fiction. The stories vary in style and content a lot, but most of them end on a rather hopeful note, which is also something nice to hold on to.

I could do this all day for #NationalComingOutDay. 💕

I want to point out Love Beyond Body Space & Time. It's an anthology of indigenous LGBT sci fi compiled by the adviser for Angel Catbird. I haven't read it since it just came out but it looks amazing. 📚

Also Marbles is AMAZING. Written by a bi comic artist coming to terms with & treating her bipolar. It's a great intersectional book on mental health, creativity, & queerness. 🌈

❤️💛💚💙💜💖

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I love Marbles! Also am super excited about the queer indigenous sci fi anthology! 8y
BookishFeminist @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Marbles is so good! I can't wait to get my hands on the indigenous anthology either. It looks amazing! 8y
