God, Sera and Mal's story is compelling. I think the fairly unique structure has a lot to do with it - not often we see two people repairing their existing marriage! And when you add the Dangerous Daughters, Caleb Calhoun, and Ladies Lilith and Felicity, things get wildly fun. Best installment in this series! #historicalromance

This is the book Sarah MacLean said she‘d pick to outlive her, if she could only choose one. I liked it, but it‘s not my favorite. It lacks some of the humor I‘ve come to expect, although the Dangerous Daughters did provide much needed comic relief. Also, kudos to MacLean for making me so invested in Sera and Malcolm‘s story that I feared they wouldn‘t get their HEA, and had to keep reading for my own peace of mind.

My #weeklyforecast - I hope to finish ADSOM today. Sarah MacLean said the book she hopes outlives her is the tagged one, so I want to reread the first two books in that series and then read this one. Plus, the last of the Bareknuckle Bastards books comes out Tuesday. Hopefully I‘ll get my preorder this week and I want to read that, too. 😍

LOVED V. E. Schwab‘s No Write Way with Sarah MacLean. So much good stuff in this episode and my reading for the next few days is now planned out, I think. 💖 Available now on IGTV and then V will have it up on her YouTube channel in a couple of weeks.

Completely unrealistic, nothing about this would happen in real life considering all the trauma. But somehow beautiful non the less. I think we all want to believe broken things can be repaired and broken people can be redeemed.

Book 1 of 2020! A great start to the new year. I am not a fan of the married/lost wife trope, but it‘s Sarah MacLean so of course I‘m reading it! And it‘s an amazing book. The pain these two went through and that satisfying ending made this book great. #romance #romantsy

I average around 150 books a year, and I‘d say around 70 a 80% of my reading (dependsing on the year) is romance! I snuck a Harlequin romance off my mother‘s bookshelf at a very young (probably too young) age, and I was hooked! I started buying them for 10 cents a pop from my local library, and there was no stopping me!😂 #Romantsy #24in48ReadAThon #Romancelandia

So good. But surprisingly melancholic and with so much keeping the estranged couple apart that if it had been anything other than a romance I would not have expected it to have a happy ending. But it is and it does and it is very satisfying.

I LOVE SARAH MACLEAN!! She‘s definitely my favorite Romance author, I‘ve now read all of her books in her 3 series! I can‘t wait for her new series to come out!

This book was really great. It was heartbreaking, funny, and there were some familiar faces in this book! Haven and Sera‘s love story was very difficult and they both had to fight for what they wanted. It was a lovely book. 💕

Haven and Sera fell hard and fast for each other. They then make some poor choices that have terrible and lasting effects. This book is them learning and trying to move on from their past in very different ways. It was nice to see a romance where things went wrong and people grow from the events. I also enjoyed having Sera's sisters joining to keep her safe.

So this happened actually a couple days ago(!); I had tweeted in response to Book Riot‘s post about what author you could read for the rest of your life and I chose Sarah MacLean because she‘s (my) queen of romance, and she responded!! She thinks I‘m lovely!! It was a definite fangirl moment!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

JanuarieTimewalker13 That‘s so funny!!! LOVE Bayside. Blast from the past (not sure if it‘s still there) Bay Terrace movie theater. Oh man, I can go all the way back when Adventures Inn was in Whitestone. Environs the disco, girl fight there, with me trying to calm both sides, to no avail. Lol...I have so many great Bayside memories!!! I met a cute guy who went to Bayside High, he didn‘t call me for 2 weeks and I said, “no thanks, You took too long” hahahaha 7y

cariashley @JanuarieTimewalker13 oh man the movie theater is definitely still there! So is Avli and it‘s delicious! My dad owns the bar Maggie May‘s off Bell - it‘s a an old man bar but the food and prices are solid. I get back there a bunch for holidays but am definitely a Manhattan girl now ☺️ 7y
cariashley @JanuarieTimewalker13 also good for you on the bayside high guy, two weeks IS way too long 😂😂 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Oh, I‘m old!! That guy could be your dad‘s age!! That happened back in 1980. Lol uhmm, hmmm, don‘t know that bar, but I was never a bar hopper, I like to dance!-that‘s a great name for a bar! My mother loved that song, awhh, Rod Stewart. I can‘t wait to read Sarah MacLean‘s latest - but I can‘t justify buying it at the moment because the tbr pile is huge and because I really want the US edition (to match the others I have and because I don‘t love the UK covers) and that makes it more complicated! Congratulations on your #50k1k Librarybelle - and how generous to do a #giveaway to celebrate.

Librarybelle Thank you! I know what you mean about the cover differences - sometimes I have to buy the UK version because I prefer it over the US version! 7y

Sarah MacLean is one of many amazing authors who appear in this fantastic article about the importance and impact of the romance genre. Everyone should read this! “While men weren‘t looking, women built a genre that tackles love, sex, pleasure, class, money, feminism, masculinity, and equality.” - Jaime Green

Outstanding. I was skeptical of this love story based on what I knew of the hero from previous books, but it is a devastatingly beautiful novel of love and redemption and forgiveness and bravery. The premise: the duchess wants a divorce. The duke wants her. Against all odds, they find their HEA.

I didn't think I would like this book. The duke of haven seemed like an asshole in the rogue not taken and I was glad of his embarrassment. But I liked the story of these two coming back together, it was very touching.

I was supposed to get lots of sleep last night in preparation for my call weekend... Nope, thanks to Sarah MacLean. This book was a slow burn for me at first, but did not take long to worm its way into my heart. I love Sera as a heroine and Mal even more as our hero. I had a picture of him being played by Armie Hammer in my head, which made the banter that much more entertaining. Ugh. I just want more. Give me Ses and Caleb now, dammit!

So I listed to another new song for day 3 of #riotgrrrl: #perfectillusion by Lady Gaga! It sounds like Ms Gaga feels that someone pretended to be in love with her. While Ms Gaga's complaint seems real, a common trope in romance novels such as the one tagged is the main character incorrectly believing the same has happened to them 😜

Bk 3 in the Scandal & Scoundrels series featuring the Dangerous Daughters. This deals with trust and grief in a marriage and how it can spiral uncontrollably if communication isn't used. Campy and the Talbot sister banter is snarky, fast paced fun.
- Why do we use the broken protagonist so often in this genre? What is the appeal of characters with a dark secret, depressing/abusive past, or inexperience?
