Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) | Rowling, J.K.
When Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens, the war against Voldemort has begun. The Wizarding world has split down the middle, and as the casualties mount, the effects even spill over onto the Muggles. Dumbledore is away from Hogwarts for long periods, and the Order of the Phoenix has suffered grievous losses. And yet, as in all wars, life goes on. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, having passed their O.W.L. level exams, start on their specialist N.E.W.T. courses. Sixth-year students learn to Apparate, losing a few eyebrows in the process. Teenagers flirt and fight and fall in love. Harry becomes captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, while Draco Malfoy pursues his own dark ends. And classes are as fascinating and confounding as ever, as Harry receives some extraordinary help in Potions from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince. Most importantly, Dumbledore and Harry work together to uncover the full and complex story of a boy once named Tom Riddlethe boy who became Lord Voldemort. Like Harry, he was the son of one Muggle-born and one Wizarding parent, raised unloved, and a speaker of Parseltongue. But the similarities end there, as the teenaged Riddle became deeply interested in the Dark objects known as Horcruxes: objects in which a wizard can hide part of his soul, if he dares splinter that soul through murder. Harry must use all the tools at his disposal to draw a final secret out of one of Riddles teachers, the sly Potions professor Horace Slughorn. Finally Harry and Dumbledore hold the key to the Dark Lords weaknesses... until a shocking reversal exposes Dumbledores own vulnerabilities, and casts Harrysand Hogwartssfuture in shadow.

This remains my favorite in the series & I always look forward to rereading it. I‘m still frustrated that Dumbledore didn‘t give Harry more information while he had the chance & he knew his death was imminent. But I love seeing Voldemort‘s history & watching Harry take on responsibility as the Quidditch captain and as Voldemort‘s ultimate foe. I also love that Dumbledore tells Harry to share all the info with Ron & Hermione so he‘s not alone.

Vansa Oooh this one's my favorite too!I really like all the flashbacks in this one. 4w
AvidReader25 @Vansa Yes! I feel like we get so much more information and character development in this one. 4w

My favorite Harry Potter book!

Severus Snape - You dare use my own spells against me, Potter? Yes. I‘m the Half Blood Prince.

Best quote of the series next to Hagrid‘s, “You‘re a wizard Harry.”

I‘ve read the first few books a couple times, but this is the first time reading through the entire series and it saddens me into a state of loneliness to realize that after The Half Blood Prince, I‘ll only have the last book left to read for the first time. After that, it won‘t be, “Oh, I‘m reading the (insert book number here) Harry Potter book!” Rather, it‘ll be reread after reread. There‘s nothing like reading a book for the first time.

My sister texted me very upset this morning because she is only discovering Harry Potter now and she read how Dumbledore dies and now this. RIP to Michael Gambon

I remember just after I finished re-reading A Monster Calls, I saw a missed-call from my sister and I called her,she told me that my grandfather died, after I hung up I saw that the call was between 12:00 and 12:14.The Monster visits at 12:07

Anybody else has weird literary coincidences?

I started my reread of this series almost a month ago (amongst all my other ongoing books) in preparation for this upcoming themed trivia night. That being said, I have less than a week to read the last 2 books in the series. Will I finish on time?! It is goning to be a close one lol. 😬

This book is written in third person limited perspective. This is established because Harry is referred to as “he, his” throughout the novel but what goes on in his head is not unknown, as the reader can see his thoughts and feelings unlike with the other characters. The entire book is based around Harry‘s perspective.

payton.laidlaw If you like books that contain magic, betrayal and tension between friends and enemies you‘ll like this book(only if you‘ve read the other 5:) it wont make sense if you haven‘t) 2y

In this book, Harry is given more responsibility and starts to act more like an adult than a child. This one is really interesting to re-read knowing the major twists at the end. I remember reading this book at my great grandma's house, completely absorbed and ignoring everyone. It's a shame you can't erase your memory of books and read them again fresh. I remember this one being really suspenseful. Still very compelling even though I know the end

I've read these books countless times and they hit progressively deeper. At the end of book 6, my heart both longs and aches for the wizarding world. This time through the series, I'm appreciating the complexity, beauty, and value of the characters' relationships to each other.

This was a treat to read as I haven‘t read it in probably 15 years. I am rereading the whole series which I started when I was a kid and then had to wait years for each new book to come out. This go round I‘ve been able to read without breaks and it‘s nice to go through the story continually. I enjoyed this one. I still stand my the third book being my favorite in the series but this was a nice reread treat.
