The Husband's Secret was a great choice for the readathon! It's so fast-paced and suspenseful.
I just hit hour 18... I think I'll be up late tonight!

Just finished this memoir/true crime story on audio. It's set in the city where I grew up, Poughkeepsie, New York, and details the author's correspondence with the serial killer Kendall Francois.
I haven't yet processed all my thoughts about it. I've heard about the case since I was a kid, but didn't know all the details until now. I'm certain I've driven by Francois's family home many times without realizing. It's a strange feeling.

About six hours into #24in48; spent the afternoon at the pool. 💦💦💦
I had really high expectations for this after hearing several people rave about it. The writing is often beautiful, but it is SO slow. I also found the audio narration to be too varied in volume -- since I listen while I drive, her voice dipping up and down meant I missed some things.
"When the corpses of some of Franklin's officers and crew were later discoverer, miles from their ships, the men were found to have left behind their guns but to have lugged such essentials as monogrammed silver cutlery, a backgammon board, a cigar case, a clothes brush, a tin of button polish, and a copy of The Vicar of Wakefield. These men may have been incompetent bunglers, but, by God, they were gentlemen."

I finished this novel a week ago and am still thinking about it. Such gorgeous writing.
Finished Evening Is the Whole Day a few hours ago and just picked up Strangers in the House, a memoir about growing up in Palestine. We'll see how long I can stay up... #readathon
Still reading this, but only about 90 pages left. It's wonderful but very densely written. I took the doggo on a long walk and had a bit of a nap... #readathon-ing is tiring!
Breakfast time! I listened to to my current audiobook, The Association of Small Bombs, while cooking. #readathon
I didn't think I was going to be able to participate in the #readathon but my plans for the day got cancelled! To start I'm going to finish Evening Is the Whole Day, which I have about 200 pages left in.
This novel is SO GOOD. I can't believe I haven't finished it yet. Thank cats it's almost the weekend!
I'm only 80 pages into this novel, but it is excellent so far. #fridayreads
"There are two kinds of people in this world: people who want to be desired, and people who want to be desired so much that they pretend they don't."
I finished this novel late last night and absolutely loved the ending. Highly recommended!
"She sincerely believed that the world curdled if her husband held his breath, and if his every whim wasn't met, the universe itself turned to ash."
Already loving this novel! I've never read anything set in Beirut before, and the writing is really bringing the city to life.
Though I liked the writing style in this novella set in Iceland, the complete lack of character development made it fall flat.

Loved this book! It's definitely taken a top spot in my list of favorite graphic memoirs (alongside Persepolis).
Good to know that nothing has changed about bookselling in more than a century...
Born a Crime details Trevor Noah's stories of growing up as a mixed-race kid under apartheid, and is also a heartfelt tribute to his strict but loving mother.
Funny, engaging, and excellent on audio, this is not the typical celebrity memoir.
I loved every second of this novel, which is set in Detroit and follows various members of a family with 13 children as they grapple with personal issues, ghostly apparitions, and the fate of their rapidly depreciating family home.
Engaging, timely, and beautifully written.
Reading with my new nephew 💕
Ugh, I can't even escape him in my reading.
He also turned up in my last audiobook, A House in the Sky, in which the author nicknamed the wealthiest-looking of her kidnappers Donald Trump.
Finally getting back to this collection.

"Before the advent of alarm clocks, people called knocker uppers were employed to knock on the windows of sleeping people in the morning, so they could get to work on time."
I'm glad that's how that sentence ended. I really thought "knocker uppers" was going in a different direction.

Reading #HarryPotter out loud to each other. We keep stopping to have long conversations about non-human magical species' mistreatment under the law, and the general incompetence of Hogwarts professors.

Finally starting this, a few days later than I'd hoped.

Donating two boxes of books to my local library #booksale (because otherwise I won't have anywhere to put the new ones!)

"I myself cried when I got angry, then became unable to explain why I was angry in the first place. Later I would discover this was endemic among female human beings. Anger is supposed to be 'unfeminine' so we suppress it -- until it overflows."

This book is filled with both big ideas and small, lovely insights.

It's the last day of the #bookisholympics! I won't be getting to gold, but as long as I finish my audiobook (6 hours to go!) and read a few more short stories, I'll take home silver.
What's everyone else's plan for the last day?
