The Brotherhood

In January 2001, 15-year-old Benjamin Hermansen was killed by neo-Nazis. The murder shook an entire nation and was described as the first racist murder in Norway after the war. In The Brotherhood, Anne Bitsch rolls up the story of a reported murder. By depicting the perpetrators' radicalization, she also describes the rise of militant nationalism in Norway from 1979 until 2001.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction with a touch of romance. Loosely based on a true story and set in Paris it's a perfect escape from every day life.

Started listening to this book today and I'm hooked!

This novel is a quick read but the story just captured my heart. Two boys climbs onto a roof and the novel beautifully captures what they see. Gorgeous drawings🌟 In the end the book has a drawn wildlife field guide 🐦🐌 #graphicnovel

This was a great "coming out" YA story. I especially liked all the support the main character got from his family and friends. Without becoming depressing the narrative feels believable and genuine. I have already passed this book on to a student of mine (BTW meet my new cat Milo ❤).

There is really a huge gap in the types of books my students borrow from the library 😅 Both 9th graders! Had to inform the pupil who wanted to borrow Norwegian Legislation that he could read Norway's laws online. Went by my local library today. It doesn't exist on litsy but it's named after the book Kimen by Tarjei Vesaas. It has a very nice area to read newspapers and magazines 🤩

Attended a work seminar about school libraries today in Trondheim. Very interesting seminar and I love Trondheim folkebibliotek! They have a seed library where you can borrow seeds and grow your own garden for free. You just have to promise to return some seeds from your own garden in the autumn! #litsyloveslibraries

I recommend this craphic novel based on Knut Hamsun's novel Hunger - Sult. The drawings are beautiful and based on historic sites and buildings in Kristiania (Oslo) in the late 1800s. I think Ernsten's drawings bring out the emotions that Knut Hamsun wanted to convey. It makes this classic more easily accessible to a wider audience. #graphicnovel #norwegian #norway

This must be one of the coolest names for an author: Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, which is translated Bear Star Bear Son ? ? He wrote Norway‘s national anthem and received the Nobel prize in Literature in 1903. Bjørnson was an opponent of the death penalty all his life, and he became a member of the first Nobel Peace Prize Committee, appointed in 1897.

I was just going to take a sneak peek at my local thrift store. Ended up with this 🤪 I love old books. The craftsmanship, the real leather and gold, even the smell 🤣 What was very special was that I found a picture and a biography of my great-grandfather in one of the books. I've never seen a picture of him, talk about coincidence!

The main entrance to our house and my favourite place to read outside! Hopefully I will get some peace and quiet and time to read here today! Wish you a nice Sunday! ☀️📚

I‘m struggling to finish this book. Mostly because I have a two year old who absolutely hates that I read. He wants all the attention! Also because the author uses very long sentences, almost no dividing into paragraphs and no quotation marks. The Norwegian teacher in me wants to find a red pen and rewrite, the other “holiday-person” just want to say “Shut up! Enjoy the book” 😅

Took my kids to the local library today. The library have a great summer campaign for kids! Sommerles is a reading campaign for the 1st to 7th grade. Yesterday I visited Skansen in Stockholm. In one of their old town houses they have recreated as a book printer shop. They also had several people working there showing how they used to print books in the old days ❤️
