Spending today with stories of black pain and black excellence, and asking myself "What are you doing for others?" #MLKDay
One down, one to go! Well, for today at least
Who else is excited for ASOUE on Netflix?? I just found out the first season covers the first four books, so today's goal is to speed through books 3 and 4 and settle down for something TERRIBLE this evening!
A wonderfully diverse cast of characters, women gaining power through force, elegance, and magic, and now this! I'm in love 😍
Coates takes his time in these first few issues, setting up a Wakanda weakened by the outside world and on the brink of revolution. Poetry driven by just enough action, the Black Panther has evolved beautifully in this new addition to the canon.
#LitsyAtoZ #LetterO
This tiny, claustrophobic novel grips from page one and doesn't let go. Trapped in a new life with his father and older brother, our narrator must balance his father's needs and growing addictions with his desire to be admired. Tense and breathtaking, One of the Boys doesn't waste a single word in its quest to crawl inside your heart and live there.
Finally home on a #FunPhotoFriday! Since most of my books are still in the book tree, my only the #TBRs are in decent-enough shape to share! Not pictured is a mountain of ARCs for this year 📚😍📚
That feeling when you run out of the library acting a fool over your luck 😂 diving in now!
Who knew office rivalry turned romance could be so decadent? Lush descriptions kept me aching for more, even if the characters' motivations got a little fuzzy. All in all, I was enchanted and left hungry for more!
#LitsyAtoZ #LetterA I laughed, I cried, I felt a deeper bond in 200 pages than I've had with some characters on whole series. Andrea was a hot mess of emotions, but she ultimately learns compassion and outward thinking, the most important lesson of all.
I went in looking for a beach read, and ended up enraged at both main characters. While they start out as best friends, the relationship is obviously poisonous and you watch as he takes advantage of her in every way. Important subject matter, but not at all what I signed up for!
Avoiding work for one more day while I curl up with my first read of the #LitsyAtoZ challenge! Still searching for books to fill out the first few letters, and looking for a few more challenges to take on, but I'm excited to get started!
Time to soak away the madness of 2016 before I get on a New Years Cruise! Hopefully the world is a little brighter and full of fizzy joy in 2017
I'm so glad Papercuts came in the mail before Christmas! A card game for the rude and well-read 😍📚😍
There were people thrice her size on the train platform and she looked admiringly at one of them, a woman in a very short skirt. She thought nothing of slender legs shut off in miniskirts-it was safe and easy, after all, to display legs of which the world approved-but the fat woman's act was about the quiet conviction that one shared only with oneself, a sense of rightness that others fail to see.
#eveningreading is very dark indeed tonight, but these are punches in the gut worth taking... with some tissues by your side!
Book mail is just the best. I'm so excited to get back into Chokshi's deadly, magical world!!!
TIL that today is a birthday close to my heart. Happy 86th to the most wonderful literal caretaker, Rubeus Hagrid!!🎊❤️🎁🎉
Finally finished up this beauty, but I don't think I'll ever be done with it. These essays, introductions, and speeches have Gaiman's distinctive imagination and whimsy, but they also lay bare his incredible NEED to write, fiction or non, that has driven his outstanding career. I couldn't help laughing, crying, and getting SO FRICKING INSPIRED.
Got called in to work this morning, but tonight is #selfcaresunday featuring chocolate, a camomile bath bomb, and all the comics a girl could wish for😍🍫🛁Next up, I tackle the stack of marvel waiting for me downstairs!
Went treasure-hunting at the library and struck gold! Bub and I each got a hefty stack but this was the cream of the crop 😍📚😍
In the middle of a harrowing red eye back home, but at least I have this handsome devil to keep me company
Today rocked!!! I climbed to the top of Hole-In-The-Rock in Phoenix, and only fell (slid on my butt for a few feet) once! I'm sure the hard-core lady types of Lumberjanes would have been right there with me.
This stunning memoir made me shed more than one tear. Amanda's frankness and care made me wish to be the kind, open person I could be, if I only asked.
Thanks to #bookmail for saving the day! No, the week!
This 80s love story/heist novel could be the next Ready Player One. I'm only a few pages in and already sunk! So who wants to read it with me? I'll ship my extra copy anywhere in the US!
When I find myself in times of trouble, Neil Gaiman comes to me, speaking words of wisdom: Don't let it be.

“To learn to read is to light a fire” — Victor Hugo, Les Miserables
#photoadaynov16 Day 5: #threwitacrosstheroom
Ignore my airport carpeting and let's talk about this book. Maas crafted emotionally compelling characters, carefully built them into relationships I loved and were invested in, then TORE EVERYTHING TO PIECES IN THE FINAL CHAPTERS. I was devastated! I threw the book, but immediately picked it back up to reread happy chapters.
#photoadaynov16 Day 4: #setinasmalltown
Small town novels set me on edge - everything is more tense since I personally know the stakes of being the outsider in a tight-knit community
#photoadaynov16 Day 3: #Inspiration
Miss Piggy has been an inspiration for me since before I can remember. This book has always been in my house, and my mom and I used to read to each other about fashion, work, and always ALWAYS being yourself.
#photoadaynov16 Day 2: #planestrainsandautomobiles
I don't have any books with cars on the cover, but the Bundren horse cart is almost the same thing, right?
Catching up on #photoadaynov16 with piles and piles of #NonfictionNovember #TBR that I will (hopefully) put a dent on this month!
October was a great month for spooky books by women, British dudes, and Patrick Rothfuss. My #NonFictionNovember numbers won't look nearly as good, but #booktober was a ton of fun!
Let me say one thing before I start. I've told stories in the past, painted pictures with words, told heart lies and heart are truths. Once I send colors to a blind man. Seven hours I played, but at the end he said he saw them, green and red and gold. But, I think, was easier than this. Trying to make you understand her with nothing more than words. You have never seen her, never heard her voice. You cannot know.
We were none of us particularly drunk. But then again, none of us were particularly sober, either. Our exact positioning between those two points is a matter of pointless conjecture, and I will waste no time on it.
This slender novel packs a huge punch, making you ask unanswerable questions by page one. Shirley Jackson was a master craftsman of gothic literature, and this story is a timeless reminder of the humanity of monsters and the horrors of mankind. #AllHallowsReads
Author's Forward
You might not want to buy this book....
On the other hand, if you'd like to learn more about Auri, this story has a lot to offer. If you love words and mysteries and secrets. If you're curious about the Underthing and alchemy. If you want to know more about the hidden turnings of my world....
Well, then this book might be for you.
Finally cracking into this beauty to mix up my spooky #booktober reads and found quite a stinger! I wonder how Lin-Manuel Miranda felt reading this line for the audiobook 😂😂
Not the worst YA fantasy I've read, but definitely not the best. If I'd known it was a series, I honestly don't think I'd finish the book. That said, there were some great concepts at work here. I loved the woman-centric world Blake built, and it could go in some interesting places based on how it ends!
Hatun sees a different world than you and I, a far more frightening one, full of far more terrible dangers, and still she chooses to be the hero whom that world needs. She has saved this town and its people from countless monsters countless times. That the battles are usually in her head does not lessen the bravery of it. The hardest battles always are.
In those days I had known there must be monsters in the world, but I would happily accept them, knowing that, by the same logic, there must also be wizards and wands and flying carpets. I had never really closed that part of my mind, just slowly stopped visiting it as I grew older. I had left it unlocked like the jumbled treasure room upstairs, waiting for someone to come poking about.
When your shelves are full to bursting so your back seat becomes a library 😂😂😂
A creepy new audiobook is just the thing for a cold, wet autumn day. Keep warm and drink more tea! ☕️
I wanted to like this one, but it just never grabbed me. The semi-unreliable narrator was almost charming, but the twist didn't hold up to the suspense of the first half. Glad I listened at work and didn't put my full attention to it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
