The Potion Diaries | Amy Alward

This was such a fun read!! It was set in modern times but with some fairytale aspects tossed in and it just made this whole world so enjoyable. Unicorns, abominables, mermaids, and potion making, doesn't get much better than that.

I actually really enjoyed Sam as the main character. At a few points she irritated me, but that's completely normal with any character that doesn't react to something the way I would. She is extremely resourceful.

*gasp* I know, I know. I didn't give it 5 stars. It just didn't quite live up to all the hype surrounding it for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but I didn't by any means love it.

The book dragged in some parts and I feel like important moments were glossed over. Just odd pacing for me.
The characters were very diverse and creative and I will not deny that they were my favorite part of the book.

annahenke I liked the book overall, but agree that it dragged in some parts and was at the beginning for me. 8y
Elisa It's such a relief to find someone else who thinks it didn't quite live up to the hype! Agree on all counts — though my favorite part was probably the world-building. Loved the expansion of the Grisha-verse! 8y

4/5 The world building in this story was phenomenal, such an interesting and in depth world that was absolutely fascinating. There were a couple things that bothered me just in general about the time frame and stuff because it's set in London, but with magicians and sorcerers and witches, so it was unclear about whether or not the queen was THE Queen Victoria or just some random queen happened to be named Queen Victoria.

398.2 I had the same problem with it. Every once in awhile something was off. That's why I gave it so so. I couldn't get passed it. I am waiting for the next one to see where it goes. 8y

5/5! I love that we get a real glimpse into the inner workings of some different careers within the Library. And how despite good intentions, especially by those who aren't of high ranking, everything is so corrupt.

This is such a fantastic and brilliantly written series and I cannot wait for the next book to be released.

jrosewordsmith I still haven't read this - I'm scared of it 😅 The body count in Ink & Bone was so brutal, I'm worried who isn't going to make it through this one 7y

You know when you pick a book up for the tenth or so time and you still get excited to read that first page, despite knowing it nearly word for word? That's this series for me. Between this and Harry Potter, there's just something magical about some books that call you back time and time again.

I love the way Clare writes, and I understand that her books aren't for everyone, but I adore the humor, the characters, the storyline, and the world.

Not to say that I didn't enjoy the book, because I did. But as you can see by how long it actually took me to finish this book (3 months?!), even reading the entire second half today, I just felt underwhelmed.

It took me ages to get into, and the storyline didn't go much of anywhere. There were a few super interesting parts, but it wasn't that intriguing like the past two books were. I will still read the final book, of course.

This series will always be a favorite of mine, so fantastically well written and with a cast of characters that's unforgettable.

It will make you contemplate what some of your worst features could possibly be given any sort of other circumstances or what will always remain, well... you.

Reading this one just makes me want to start the series all over again. Without a doubt one of the most creative stories I've had the pleasure of reading.

I'm actually bawling right now. What the hell just happened? I feel like someone knew exactly what would hurt the most and wrote it down whilst laughing to themselves. Damn you, Marie Lu.

This book was so good. So full of so much pain and sorrow and tough choices that just never get any easier and that fucking ending.

I AM SO UPSET RIGHT NOW.

My goodness. THIS BOOK. It was complete and utter perfection and it so completely ruined me, I just don't know what to do right now. I'm sitting here, typing while in complete and utter shock, my eyes still red from all the damn crying.

This book was a total and complete mindfuck. I mean... wow.

Chachic What a lovely book shot! I'm reading this now. 8y

This is where everything starts getting more and more complicated and when you realize how much forethought JK put into some of the story-arcs that continue on through the remainder of the series.

There's so much in this book that's left out of the movies, from Dobby's involvement, to S.P.E.W., to Sirius having an active role, all of what happened to Barry Crouch...I wish this book had been split into two movies, I feel like so much was missed.

Sara doesn't hold back with her writing, she doesn't attempt to pander to the audience and write what she thinks they want to hear, ohhhhh no. She's brutal and I love it. That's what a book like this needs and deserves and it was done so well, I was left in shock several times.
It got down to the nitty-gritty of a zombie invasion and with such a clever take on the creatures themselves, I won't say more than that because YOU SHOULD READ THE BOOK!

Dragon Zombie enough said . Adding it to my stack👻 8y

5/5 for sure.

The characters, the story-line, the world, it's all so fantastically messed up with this series, and Bracken pushed those boundaries even further in this book.

I'm left in awe, dying to read the next book but trying to stop myself because I don't want this series to be over. Bracken, you're quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

5/5🌟! Cline really does have a way with words and such a strong knack for world-building that's absolutely breathtaking. Both the real world and the virtual reality world in this book were so detailed, it was such a pleasure reading this.

This is one of those books you only come across so often, being incredibly well-written with an amazing cast of characters and a storyline and world that will leave you with one of the worst book hangovers ever

Well-ReadNeck ❤️📸 8y

Every time I read this book, I seem to be more and more in awe of it. That being said, this is only my second read, but still. I mean… Laini Taylor, you are brilliant. So beyond brilliant, it drives me crazy.

This story starts out so seemingly normal that once the paranormal/ fantasy elements are introduced, they‘re done so in such a way that you really almost forget that they‘re out of the ordinary, they just… are. #lainitaylor #dosab

Such an amazing conclusion to this series.

I have to say, I was actually caught off-guard a couple times with this book and I even cried at a few points.

Loved getting to see the conclusion of Meira's story and I feel like it was wrapped up quite nicely!

5/5 🌟I mean... Wow. I loved how little we knew going in and how much we learned over the course of the book. It wasn't rushed, information wasn't shoved in your face or down your throat and you just grow to know this world and these characters and it's truly something spectacular.

I can see why some people wouldn't like certain aspects of this book, but something about it really drew me in and I loved it.

4/5 🌟 It was a very cute read, full of a lot of real problems and a lot of stuff we tend to sweep under the rug; stuff that isn't usually mentioned in books.

The characters were all amazing and I feel like they all grew and learned about themselves while learning from each other and it was kind of awesome to witness. Emma Mills, this was a beautiful debut novel.

Honestly, the whole journey they took, getting to see more of the world made this book so amazing. I love all the development, both of characters and the storyline and I absolutely CANNOT wait for the next book.

Also, can we talk about how absolutely chaotic and insane that ending was?! I'm sitting here in shock, barely able to formulate thoughts properly.

5/5 How do I even begin with this book? The world that Raasch created was absolutely incredible. It was like a whole beautiful mess of different fantasy books while retaining its own originality. Flawless.

The battle scenes. Damn. They were absolutely amazing and at times, because it's all from Meira's POV and in first person, you feel like you're there. You just get this overwhelming sense of being sucked into the battle and it's so well done.

I absolutely adore this one, even if it's a bit childish and whimsical.

I love the whole premise of this one though, I adore the idea of there being a hidden chamber and, really, the whole bringing in the idea of horcruxes before that idea was really fleshed out.

Getting to see Hagrid's backstory was definitely something I felt needed to happen but I feel so bad for him considering it wasn't actually his fault that he was expelled.

From the very beginning, I was enthralled with the world that Caine began building. A world run by a LIBRARY?! Where knowledge and books were this hugely important thing across the world? Aghhh.

Jess was one of the most realistic characters I have EVER read about; he was so human, so tangible that you can't help but be completely absorbed in the story.

This book was one of the most incredible books I've had the pleasure of reading!

Seeing where Harry comes from each time makes me so sad. How he's not a nut job with the lack of any sort of good touch growing up is beyond me. And the fact that he's not just in the background, but totally verbally (and physically) abused for years is just heartbreaking. Props to Harry for being not just a decent human being, but an extremely good person.

So excited to own these editions and have a good excuse to read the books over again. (:

Here‘s my raving review for this absolutely brilliant book, courtesy once again of the amazing Sarah J. Maas. My love for her, her writing, and her storylines really knows no bounds.

I literally cried when I got my hands on it, a year between books in this series always feels like so much longer, and I‘ve been reading this series since there were only two books out. This series is such an unbelievable blessing and I cannot say I adore it enough.

Bookschief_managed @BookManiac that about sums it up. 😅 I don't want to wait a whole year. 8y
BookManiac I was screaming and crying my husband just patted me on the head and gave me a hug. I won't be ok until next fall and book 6 comes out. 😁 8y

BookManiac Next year will probably be the end of us since it's the last book in the series I can't however see her killing off her main character I just can't 8y
Bookschief_managed @BookManiac I think there's going to be a loophole somehow. There has to be. 😭 8y
BookManiac I'm sure of it she wouldn't tell us her plan for book 6 with out there being some twist 8y

Absolutely stunning book! I loved the whole concept of "music" in this dystopia and absolutely adored the whole world behind this book.

And Ronja as a main character, she's just... gahh. I love her so much and I loved Roark.

Cannot wait for the second book!
