“He stood in the middle of his Paris apartment with the man he loved, and felt very alone.” That moment when reading when you get to a line that resonates and takes you away into your own thoughts for a while. I‘ve had a divorce thrown at me after 25 years of marriage and I‘ve spent much of it feeling like that quote - without the benefit of a Paris apartment. Perhaps I will be better off after all...
I originally received this as an ARC and then my work life started to impede my ability to participate in such things in the way I once did. So I just now got to this while recovering from surgery. I‘m over half way through and enjoying it so much. It is very well written and engaging despite having a quite somber story line. Will definitely finish this before heading back to work at the end of the week.
Recovering from surgery last week and sick with bronchial ick. And possibly looking at another surgery next week. I‘m tired and wiped out. Lots of reading, Litsy, Goodreads, and YouTube going on. And holding cats. This is Miss. Pearl Girl. She has a misery too. Little bit of cold in her eye. So we convalesce together. I looked down and she was doing a big blep. #yougogirl #ugh #tootiredtoshower #ugh
Bookcase club books arrived today. #bccunboxing Included are: Close Your Eyes by Michael Robotham, The Second Life of Nick Mason by Steve Hamilton, The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind, and The Lyre Thief by Jennifer Fallon.
It‘s not like I needed another copy of Jane Eyre, but this cover! Had to have it.
May not have another day off for two weeks. So it‘s cross stitch and reading today.
Got books 1-7 in this series for my digital collection. I generally prefer “real” books, but I only have so much house to store them in. So every now and then I‘ll concede, lol.
A child commits a crime while sleepwalking with no memory of the event. On sale today and added to my digital stash. —-As a side note, anyone else having issues adding pictures to your blurbs today?
The stepsister might be ugly, but this little one is beautiful.
The storyline was good but the way some of the dots were connected to get from one plot point to another were too far fetched. Two characters with different goals and in different places need to suddenly be in the same place? Boom - what a coincidence - they end up in the same place. And that same method of moving characters and circumstances repeated throughout the story. It was all just too convenient and for me it took away from the story.
It‘s pretty bad when you go book shopping and have to use the luggage rack to get all of your books back to your room, lol. This is the damage that @LauraLeah and I did.
My life has been so busy with work, I hadn‘t signed up for any arcs in a year. But recently I signed up for just a small handful, not expecting to hear back. But then this arrived and I quickly realized I had misunderstood what the story is about. But I‘m two pages in and *completely hooked* already. The story of an African-American woman who joined the army in 1866 under the guise of being a man.
My son just told me about this book. We‘re big Myth Buster fans around here. Kari Byron tackles real life issues using the Scientific Method. Going to have to get this one.
I‘ve had a pretty depressing morning so far. So...I‘m thinking some reading and peppermint cocoa might help the situation. I‘m only 85 pages in (it‘s interesting to try and keep up with your page count when you‘re flipping the book over at the end of every chapter) but enjoying it so far.
So ~ what are your thoughts on audio books? Love them? Hate them? Do you think they‘re great or do you think they‘re “cheating?” For myself, I *love* them. I have a full hour commute to work every day and usually do not enjoy listening to music while I drive. I prefer to listen to someone speaking. So it‘s either audiobooks or NPR for me while on the road. I can get in more of my tbr pile this way and not feel like I‘ve wasted 2 hours of my day.
So this happened today. A few I‘ve been wanting - #ahigherloyalty #commonwealth #replica - one I‘ve been hearing a lot about - #thegirlintheice - and the rest just grabbed me as I walked by. And one of the local independent bookstores I went to sells the much adored #frostbeard candles. Woohoo!
And still more. It‘s like a maze that doesn‘t end. Heaven! #onestopbookshoppe
How have I not found this massive used bookstore in my community before now?! Books literally up to the ceiling!
I purchased this book in a whim. It took me three tries to get into it. Being a mystery surrounding a kidnapped baby, it‘s stressful subject matter that I usually stay away from. But once I found my determination to plough through my hesitation, I did enjoy this book. I will be open to reading more from this author.
When your work still calls you at 3am and then 6:30am even though you are on vacation. So, I‘m awake. Don‘t have to check out till 11 so going to finish this. And wait for the next phone call....
Having a much deserved weekend get-a-way. (My first weekend off in a year y‘all!) These are the reads I‘m taking. I‘m almost finished with Through the Darkness - have been enjoying it more than I thought I would. And will start The Break Down. We have beautiful weather (finally) and I‘m so ready for some fun. Bluegrass Underground ~ here we come!!
I‘m a sucker for buying books at Kroger while grocery shopping. Picked this one up a few months ago and have tried to start it three times. Other things got in the way. Going to give it another go.
So this is happening today. The dumplings are chilling in the fridge and the stew is almost done with its first simmer. I‘ve been wanting to cook something from this for ages. I‘m off work and today‘s the day. :-)
Second hand store, .50 each for these. Can‘t beat that, not that my tbr needs more books. I‘ve got several going at the moment. You know how you have a car chapstick, purse chapstick, bedroom chapstick, etc? Yeah, I‘ve got that with books.
Just finished Lev Grossman‘s Magician series. Loved it. And with my one hour each way commute to work daily, audio books are a God send.
This story is from my husband‘s/children‘s tribe. I read it and then passed it on to my daughter, a piece of her heritage.
Bad picture but my current reads. I'm reading Fantastic Beasts despite having seen the movie 3X already. (Don't judge me.) The Eye of the World, a recommendation & gift from @LauraLeah and The Mermaid Chair is my current month's postal book club read. Thoroughly enjoying all of them.
I was supposed to have this done by today for a postal book club. Only on pg 46. Oops...
It hurts my heart to bail on a book. But I'm over half way through with this one and although it is a good story and it has mostly good reviews...it feels like I'm wasting my time when reading it. I think it's gonna have to go.
A very good suspense story but the ending made me sad. But worth the read. Good writing, add this to you tbr list.
Hermione would like to say she's certain she's in the wrong book. Lol.
Rick Riordan's dog, lol. #dogsoflitsy
At the Rick Riordan author talk.
Winner winner chicken dinner!!
My daughter is cleaning out and finding things from her childhood. She found this book - this lovely, wonderful book. Needless to say, this one won't get purged!
Daughter brought this home to me as a surprise. :-)
I'm kind of confused over these two titles. Same book? From what I've seen online it seems so...but not sure.
Have you any books you read that you simply can't remember anything about? I read a lot on my own growing up, but also went to a high school that really pushed literature. (Forever grateful for that btw...) I know that I read How Green Was My Valley as well as Wuthering Heights - and I haven't the faintest memory of either. Anyone else have that happen?
More book happy mail. I wish I could remember which site/contest it was from...

I decided to get my money's worth with this month's Audible credit. Gone With the Wind. Unabridged and 49 hours, 7 minutes long.
A book full of book reviews. Read this if you want to add more to your tbr pile!
Won this from a Goodreads contest. Excited because I've been hearing a lot about this one.
