What a wild book. So many twists and turns that will keep you intrigued and make it hard to put down. Some points started to become predicable once you figured out certain information. I wish the ending was a bit different? To be it seemed a little forced or totally unrealistic given all that has happened.

Main win: the dog wasn‘t harmed in any way.

So many emotions while reading this book! Trigger warning for those who have experienced sexual assault. The love story that unravels between Elle and Jonas is so sweet and compelling. The ending has open interpretation that she goes back to him?

This would be an interesting book to reread in the actual timeline!

This book was slow for me to read. I couldn‘t get into it. It took off right away with the plot giving no time for development or details. It reminded me of watching a Final Destination movie with how unrealistic it became.

The first chapter immediately has you raising questions and eyebrows. This book seemed promising!

Thinking okay. This is a pretty good storyline about a serial killer we are trying to identify. Only for it to get super weird at the last 100 or so pages turning into a almost paranormal thriller?

Loved the storyline up until that point, then I thought I lost interest and that killed the vibe of the book for me.

MMFinck Agreed. If a book is going to have magical realism, I like to know from the outset. Throwing it in at the end like that felt… ridiculous, if I‘m being honest. 1y

Easily one of my favorite books! Such a twisted story line that pulls you in right from the beginning. It‘s a perspective jumping book that is two story lines taking place at the same house. WORTH THE READ I PROMISE!! JP Delaney became one of my favorite authors. If you like twisted #psychologicalthrillers add this to your stack! #thriller #suspense #thegirlbefore
The adaptation on HBO of this was actually pretty accurate to the book!

noseinabookagain I loved this book! I‘ve also read The Perfect Wife by Delaney but only rated it 2⭐️ so that was disappointing 2y
IndianBookworm I read it long back. Had no idea it had a HBO adaptation too. 😅 2y

Overall a good read! I did think it was sort of rushed at the end. In my opinion, I don‘t think that Ryle would have been that civil and was kind of expecting something else to happen instead of Marshall just having a calm interaction handing over Emmy to Atlas as Ryle just sat in the car. Also another time jump that went straight to the wedding? You can‘t tell me Ryle wouldn‘t have interjected at any point in that time frame.

To start off, I LOVE that chapters were short. Always a huge seller. Jumping from different prospectives with timelines overlapping was super intriguing towards the end of the book!

There were some lines that were said at the end of chapters that eluded to more but were never really explained or further developed. Not sure if that was just to play with ideas in your head while reading or not?

End of the book = total mind game!

Overall enjoyed the story line and the book. At times it felt very rushed with time jumps and a little unrealistic with how fast things moved in the different relationships.

Also maybe it was just a me thing, but at times I felt the writing style was very underdeveloped. Like it was still written in the 16 year old Lily‘s perspective and not the 24 year old Lily‘s perspective.

This was the first Stephen King book I‘ve read and I was not disappointed. Loved the fact that he threw out some of the current trends of tv shows into the story line. #thriller #stephenking #theinstitute

Cat.Rogers @KathyWheeler This was the first book by Stephen King that I‘ve read! 2y
KathyWheeler @Cat.Rogers 11/22/63 is also really good. The Stand is considered by many to be his masterpiece, but if you are sensitive to pandemic stories, you might not want to read it right now. I‘m glad your first experience with him was good. His son, Joe Hill, is also an excellent writer. 2y

Easily one of my top ten books. One of the first books where I didn‘t mind the narration jumping from character to character. I did have some open ended questions after finishing but would totally read it again. #thenshewasgone #psychologicalthriller #lisajewell
