HELP! I‘m a teacher in Manitoba. Currently trying to figure out a legal way to continue my read out load with my students during a 3 week school cancelation. Is this possible?

I‘m especially excited about this one as it was written by a former student‘s mother whom I like immensely. This is Dari‘s first book. She and her husband also wrote a book together about traveling with their then two young kids around the world for a year. It‘s called “Don‘t Try This At Home.” So fun and interesting to actually know the people in the book!

More reading materials so I don‘t go nuts while avoiding all human contact.

Absolutely cried from both laughter and sadness while reading this script. It‘s better than the show IMO.

Great play. Dark and funny. If you‘re into Fleabag, give this a try.

It took me a few months of on and off reading for several factors. For one, it‘s a very tough subject and what was once a fascination as a kid with little experience and understanding of the world around me, it is now much harder for me to digest all at once the depravity that can so often exist in mankind. I have heard that some parts of this novel have been adjusted for its readability. Otherwise, this is a really good read. Get a tissue.

Re-reading this bad boy!

My students always love the pigeon books, and I really enjoy reading them. We talk about voice and how to show a character‘s emotions with these books.

Great book! It got me obsessed with the history of Witch trials and the persecution of women.

This felt a lot like a conspiracy theory. It was ok, but being a skeptic, I found this hard to get through.

A few of the selections I have on my list to read in 2018. I will post more lists as I compile.

Book 2 of Alex and Catherine‘s story. The rebellion has begun and Alex finds himself in high demand within the Prince‘s army. As the book starts off, he and Catherine have not seen each other in months, both desperate to know of the other‘s safety. Catherine has returned to her family‘s home in England and is struggling to fit back into her former life as a self-absorbed lady of the ton.

Great book! I can appreciate a strong female character.

Catherine starts out as an overindulged, rude English lady who finds herself married to a Scottish rebel disguised as a merchant. Her scheming ways have finally caught up with her. She and her new, albeit reluctant husband Alex make their way to the highlands in order for him to return home after years in hiding. They will surprise not only each other with their feeling but also themselves.

As much as I would typically enjoy anything written by Anne Rice, I think this work was really frustrating and long-winded to read. I kept trying to pick it back up for years, but her damn symbolisms and symbolisms of symbolisms and is he a ghost or a rockstar or a figment of the main character‘s imagination or am I now going insane?!? It wasn‘t to my taste, so I bailed. ☹️

DISCLAIMER: I have never read this book, BUT this is a push to get both teachers and parents to try these projects with their kids. So, you provide materials and a set of instructions and get the kids to follow an engineering design process.

This is a picture from day 1 of 3 of a structure building challenge where the criteria is to make a structure using only liquid glue and popsicle sticks (no limit) to build a structure of min. 1m in height.

For any #FRENCHTEACHERS out there looking for those hard to find French resources, #PosterPals does some great stuff. It‘s a bit $$ but it comes laminated and in full colour. They have a regular word wall and a math word wall. Just got mine a and I‘m spending a bit of time cutting it up tonight. They also have some great sound card bundles with CDs.

Le petit prince is a bit dark. Don‘t know why people insist on showing it to young kids FYI...

I always love reading #ElephantandPiggie as a #ReadOutLoud for my class! Last year it was Gr. 1 and this year, it‘s Gr. 3. Even thought it‘s pretty simple language, my students still dig it. These guys and that darn Pigeon are all ok my me!

Three tragedies by Lorca. These are Spanish plays set in the 1930s, during a time and in a place where women were very oppressed. I was lucky enough to be involved in a production of “The House of Bernarda Alba” several years ago (pictured bottom right) and selected an excerpt (top right) that perfectly describes the judgements women heap upon each other not only in these works and in the times these were set in, but also today.

Great book that I read in school years ago. Loved it! A young boy is involved in a small plane crash and this book goes through his discoveries and learning as he figures out how to survive in the wilderness.

Not a big fan of “abuse for the sake of interest” stories and I didn‘t really feel that the author had a firm grasp of how a victim of abuse might react to the physical act of intimacy. Some good parts of this book, but I think this is an example of how we tend to glorify rape culture. I know that some might think that I‘m expecting too much from a romance novel. I personally think that is not the case and we need to be more careful of this issue.

This was an easy read. It‘s meant for high school aged girls but if you‘re looking for something fluffy with some surprising depth, it‘s a good choice. This is a trilogy and all three books are well thought out and written.

A young girl and her brother and mother go to the lake house of her mother‘s friend, the same as every other summer. She has had a long standing crush on the older son for years, but this summer, things are going to change.

This is the sequel to #WitchChild. Both are fantastically written.

A young woman living in the 21st century has unusual visions of a woman who escapes her colony after her witch trial ends in a guilty verdict. She falls in love with and marries a young aboriginal man and thus her life completely changes.

These visions lead the woman through years of struggles, fights with European settlers and heartbreak.

Loved this book! Read it years ago and I‘m planning to re-read over #ChristmasBreak. The second book is also very good. It‘s called Sorceress and I will post it too.

A young girl escapes the persecution of the people in her small town when her grandmother is accused of being a witch and hung. Her escape brings her to the colonies where she fosters with a childless family and tries to conceal her unusual gifts.

I don‘t know if anyone is looking for some good music to listen to while reading. But I quite enjoy this song. It tells a story in and of itself. #aloneinkyoto #readingplaylist

Loved this collection of monologues! So glad I can share this! These are legitimately funny monologues for women! Enjoy!

A standard romance novel. I enjoyed the strength of mind of the female lead.
