pickThis is for the short story, “The Red Convertible,” but I can guarantee the entire collection is worth reading. This story is part of Love Medicine. Erdrich is so clever in her connections. A fabulous storyteller.

so-soI‘d argue this US and Eurocentric collection is hardly the “world‘s” best. It isn‘t diverse in any way (only 3 of the 20 stories are written by women and there are few authors of color). The stories are definitely canonical and anyone with a large number of English classes in their background will have already read most of these. Volt is a great collection of dark and gritty short stories by Alan Heathcock. It‘s been so long since I‘ve read this collection, I think I‘m due for another go around in the near future!
