Run Towards the Danger | Sarah Polley
Pickpick

I‘ve been looking forward this and wasn‘t disappointed: six excellent essays by Canadian actor and director Sarah Polley that eloquently address really complex themes. She looks at what it‘s like to be a disempowered young actor, navigating whether to speak or be silent as an assault survivor, dealing with chronic illness and injury, childbirth and parenting, balancing childhood fame with an adult career, and more.

JudeCC @StayCurious YES! Haven‘t watched the movie. Is it too graphic?! A big trigger?! I‘m scared to watch it. I also love the author. She‘s such a great human and writer. 🥹🙌😃 2y

Chapter 14: Rochester gets his drink on and tries to converse with Jane, but pretty much just bungled it all up 🤷🏻‍♀️ #notafanofbrats #callsjaneblunt #hesnotwrong #speak #callsherplain #likehessoperfect #sojudgemental #pemberlittens

Maggie4483 I'm a couple days behind on reading, so I can't really contribute to the *actual* conversation. But I would like to thank you and @i.besteph for two days in a row of Michael-Fassbender-as-Mr.-Rochester pics. 😍😍 #keepemcoming 2y

I almost forgot about the #wednesdaywordchallenge! I haven‘t accepted that today is Wednesday. I‘m still stuck on Tuesday. Even though my husband is working from home most of the time, he did have off on Monday so the holiday is throwing me off. Anyone else struggling with that?

Today‘s word is #speak. Anderson‘s book was a given but the others fit the theme, too. Let‘s see what you come up with! Don‘t forget to tag me if you do this challenge!

Speak is a whispery novel telling a traumatized girl's story. Highly intriguing, but a difficult topic. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Something everyone should read.

((Gorgeous artwork not by me))

I haven't read Speak in a while. Wow. The graphic novel interpretation is brilliant, with the art reinforcing Melinda's turmoil in the year after her rape. Anderson's story is powerful in its restraint in portraying Melinda's isolation and eventual strength. Brilliant.⠀

Laurie Halse Anderson is writing a sort-of sequel for her award winning novel Speak. It‘s called ‘Shout‘ and is a result of the Me too movement. The first half will be about Anderson‘s own traumatic experience and her writing process in Speak, the second half will be about readers reactions and what we can do.
I‘m so excited and in tears! Speak is such an important book for me, and I can‘t believe we are getting this!
