Wings, an openly gay novel, was published in Russia in 1906. Obviously, there was some pushback at the time, but still... literary circles at the time must have been rather progressive. In fact, Anna Akhmatova mentions Mikhail Kuzmin several times in her poetry - they were friends -, which is how I came across him in the first place.
so-soI could not get into this book. Maybe this particular book would be good If I had a history of abandonment.

pickGregory Scofield‘s memoir, written when he was only 33, outlines his struggles with intergenerational trauma and with the internalized self-loathing he‘s experienced as a gay Métis man. I wasn‘t prepared for how hard it hit me; for the sheer depth of feeling, or for Scofield‘s ability to make the specific feel universal. I highly recommend it in its own right and as a successor/cognate text to Maria Campbell‘s HALF-BREED.
