Look what I found, look what I found! I‘m so thrilled that I managed to find a copy of this Out of Print edition of ‘The Old Curiosity Shop‘. It was one of my favourite designs from the series and I had almost lost hope in ever getting a copy! #happybooklover

What‘s self control? 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is my #currentlyreading pile. I‘ve gone from reading Silence of the Girls, two reading three books at once and although this is a technique I want to learn to help me battle my overflowing TBR, I‘m still learning how to work multiple books at once effectively.

So, I guess I‘m accepting eyeball donations now 💁🏼‍♀️🤔#penguinenglishlibrary #penguinmodernclassics

keys_on_fire I don‘t usually have multiple books going of one type. The way I do it is hat I have one print book, one ebook, and one audio book. That way if I don‘t have my print book with me, I can read on my phone if I have the opportunity, and I listen to my audio book on the way to and from work. 6y
ephemeralwaltz Self control? No idea. I'm always reading more than one book too; 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @ephemeralwaltz Who needs that self control stuff anyway? 🤷🏼‍♀️😹🖤 6y

Sophoclessweetheart @keys_on_fire That‘s a great idea! I don‘t use audiobooks or ebooks personally, but if you do that‘s a brilliant way to work them 👏 6y
Weaponxgirl I will read multiple books at a time but I find I need to have different genres on the go at once. So generally I'll have one fiction and non fiction all the time. This is because I like to follow the thread of fiction without confusing myself too much. Other combos that can work are essay collections and short stories and poetry fits in anywhere. I will also often throw in a bio or memoir but that's my lack of control. 6y
BooknerdsLife Haha I'm forever reading more than one book at a time since I get bored too easily & Im totally a big mood reader 😅🙈 But I do try to read different genre at the same time so I won't get too confused 🤗 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @weaponxgirl I have tried to do multiple reads with one nonfiction or poetry and one fiction but I‘m trying to branch out and just read 2-3 of whatever I want to read at once because I‘m currently just wanting to read everything right away 😹😹 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @booknerdslife I‘m hoping once this dire need to read everything at once right away wears off I can go back to one book at a time. Hah 😹 6y
BooknerdsLife @Sorceryandswords Haha OK 😂 I doubt it will wear off so tho...It's our biggest problem : Too many books, too little time 🤣😈 6y

"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength."
George Orwell, 1984.
Day 10 of #requiredreadingredo. The one #RequiredReading that everyone should read. This was not my RR but my daughter's (I read it years later) and we both loved it & couldn't recommend it enough. It's written all those years ago yet it's scary to see that this story is still relevant today. #readinglife #penguinbooks#PenguinEnglishLibrary #bookspine

#BookMail today! I loved this book, my first Gaskell read in 2009. I must have lost my original pink edition from Barnes and Noble in one of many moves...so ordered a new copy in hopes of rereading soon. #PenguinEnglishLibrary

rockpools I love this book! And that is such a pretty edition 😍 7y
Notafraidofwords I just got this one. I'm intimidated by the size. 7y
EvieBee @RachelO isn‘t it the best?! Love the characters and love to hate the not so nice ones. 😁❤️ 7y

EvieBee @Notafraidofwords I think thus far this is the biggest book I‘ve ever read! But I remember flying through it. Much easier to fly through than MIDDLEMARCH, which is about the same length. (edited) 7y
Melissa_J I love that cover. 7y
EvieBee @Melissa_J Me too! Goes perfect with the science part of the book, right?! 7y

Had a hard time deciding what to read next (from my own shelves) after THE BLUE CASTLE. This is perfect! Already on chapter 3 and enjoying it immensely.

A few nights ago I got the last 30 minutes of Scorsese's "The Age of Innocence" on TCM, and forgot what a beautiful film and book it was! Probably what inspired me to pick this. #CurrentlyReading #PenguinEnglishLibrary

batsy I think I show up in the comments of everyone's Wharton posts to say that I love her 😄 (and this book is so good and 💔) 7y
Susannah I've been thinking about reading this one for a while. The only Wharton I have read is Ethan Frome. 😕 (Edited to add that I love these Penguin English Library editions!) (edited) 7y
Jess_Read_This Oh!! I adore Penguin English Library editions! I head a nasty rumor they weren't being published anymore and some of the PEL books are getting hard to find. Yours is just gorgeous! 7y

Cortg Pretty picture! 7y
EvieBee @batsy I remember watching the movie years ago and the ending! But I can't remember the in between bits so it's still like a surprise. Really liking it! 7y
EvieBee @Susannah I haven't read that one yet! I've only read THE AGE OF INNOCENCE and it was an audiobook. I feel like I may have lost a few bits. I love these too! I own quite a few but this is the first one ive actually started reading and the pages are lovely! Opens very nicely too. 7y
EvieBee @Jess_Read_This Really?! I know they were only going to do 100 books but how sad! There are certain ones that are so hard to find! Others are plentiful and cheap! 7y
EvieBee @Cortg Thank you! ❤️❤️ 7y
vivastory I loved Scorsese's "Age of Innocence" I really ought to read Wharton 7y
EvieBee @vivastory Isn't it amazing?!? I forgot how beautiful everything is and his attention to detail. The wardrobe and his study lined with books. Sigh. 7y

RealLifeReading Hello pretties! 8y
elliemcc11 they are lovely though. I've seen the ones standing up in our bookshops. And my parents have lots of orange spine books 👍 8y

Jess_Read_This @elliemcc11 Oh! I'd love to see your parents' collection. The orange spines are harder to come by over here, at least for me. A few I've stumbled upon and a few I've bought off of eBay. I just love the orange vintage penguins. 8y
Jess_Read_This @rubyslippersreads @RealLifeReading Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️ 8y

Pickpick

First post on Litsy, and had to start with Pride and Prejudice, my favourite book. Finished rereading it last night, and still love it. Austen's wit is brilliant, can't help but laugh at Mr Collins, he is ridiculous. Her character development is fantastic, don't judge people on first impressions. Does anyone else like pride and prejudice?

pride_and_reading Yes!!!! I adore Pride and Prejudice 8y
Katiesbookishlife I love Pride and Prejudice, I re-read every couple of years and it is still so great. 8y
Lucyrosereading @pride_and_reading it's a great book. Can't stop buying different editions. Like your Litsy name! 8y

Lucyrosereading @Booksandallthecoffee I always notice something different when I read it. Keep changing my mind in Mr Bennet, at the moment I like him, but on another read I will dislike him. 8y
books_from_my_shelves One of my favourite books,too!!💜💜💜 7y
Lucyrosereading @myreadingcorner it's brilliant. Do you enjoy Austen's other works? 7y
books_from_my_shelves @Lucyrosereading Pride and Prejudice is my favourite one, I quite like Emma and Sense and Sendibility, too. I've read NorthangerbAbbey and Persuasion, I began but unfortunatelly couldn't finish reading Mansfield Park- I found it too boring - but I think I'll give it another try and Love and Friendship is on my tbr list. 7y
Lucyrosereading @myreadingcorner oh Love and Friendship is great. Slightly different to the rest of her novel. It's worth a read, when you get a chance. 7y
