Got to hear Melissa Caruso talk about her new book, out today! It‘s a fantasy, mystery, time loop type of book and I can‘t wait to start it.

I also picked up the 3rd book in her Rooks & Ruin series, as I have the first 2 signed already. (Have only read the first book).

It was a great night! CL Herman was the moderator (I‘ve never heard of her), but she was amazing!

Kembral is a new mother who takes a tiny break from motherhood to join and hopefully enjoy an end of the year party. She used to work as retrieval agent, but has been on maternity leave. When the party turns into a "Groundhog Day" scenario Kembral seems to be the only one who recognises that the party/the mansion is slowly sinking into the echoes (parallel worlds that are similar, but not the same as the "prime" world).

julesG I liked Kembral as the main character. She seems fully fleshed out. She knows her strengths, but also her weaknesses, especially after having had a baby only two months before the party. She doesn't shy away from confrontations and has a deep desire to help - or to paraphrase the story: She's the one to get the dog and bring it home when no one else dares to.

julesG The story could have become repetitive, but each repetition of the party has higher stakes. Kembral needs to find allies, who help her puzzle out how to get all of the people attending the party back to their world without any of them dying, but who will believe her and who can she trust?

The ending of the book is written in a way that it could work as a standalone. Yet, I am curious to see where the sequel takes Kembral.

Laughterhp Oh glad to hear this book is good! I‘m going to an author event in 2 weeks for this one. 5mo
julesG @Laughterhp ooooh, now I'm a bit jealous. 😁 5mo

Continuing my reread of this series with this book that I don‘t remember at all (other than that I didn‘t like it as a teen). It‘s a pretty quirky story packed full of Romeo and Juliet nods, cats, and an interesting sung magic system. This hardly has anything to do with Chrestomanci compared to the books collected in the first volume. #magic #cats #MultipleWorlds

My husband recently decided he needs more Diana Wynne Jones books in his life, so I'm revisiting some of my favorite high school reads with him. I definitely don't remember a lot of what happens in these books, so the reread has been super fun! #Magic #MultipleWorlds

I read this series in high school and absolutely loved it. Right now, I'm rereading it with my husband because now that I've introduced him to Diana Wynne Jones, he's obsessed. I loved this book just as much as an adult. There are a few parts that show their age, of course. The conclusion of the 9 girls situation is so characteristic of Diana's writing! 😂 #Fantasy #MultipleWorlds

Larkken ❤️ Diana Wynne Jones!! 2y

Something about this book just didn't capture my interest. It's a fine book with an interesting premise, but nothing about it felt unique to itself. I might have also felt so-so on the characters.
This was one of my recent #Roll100 picks, though I don't remember why it was on my list! @PuddleJumper

This was a fun read. I can't imagine how frightening it would be to be the people selected as the "safety" for the children in traveling groups just in case everyone else died. The audio book was also really well done. #fantasy #ghost #parallelworlds #multipleworlds

I enjoyed this book, but not quite as much as I enjoyed the first in the series. It's still a great pick for fans of fantasy. It's also a fascinating exploration of fear, especially the anxiety parents experience over their children's safety. #fantasy #talkinganimal #parallelworlds #multipleworlds #innervoice #steampunk

I liked this one just as much as the first book. It's a vivid rollercoaster of a read, and provides a good look at generational trauma. #fantasy #magic #ghost #romance #multipleworlds #multiverse #dream #trauma #generationaltrauma #lgbtcharacter
