Fools Die On Friday | Erle Stanley Gardner

Avery different experience than the Perry Mason novels, though Gardner‘s trademark dialogue and crime schemes are both evident.

A man in the final stages of cancer tries to reach his native #Montenegro to die. He is pursued in the forest and the mountains by a group 2 men soon to turn into a mob. This novella was a random find at the bookshop and I was bowled over.

I‘ve been unusually busy with work, and the month is just going to great crazier with a ton of upcoming 16 hour shifts…. So it‘s hard for me to review or post updates with every book I read for the #BigJuneReadathon. For now, I‘m going to post updates like this every couple of days.

Thanks to a little #graphicnovel #comic session, I am way ahead of schedule, having finished 31/55 books.🌼

thereadingpal You can do it! And damn, 16 hours works shifts... 2y
PaperbackPirate You‘re doing great! 👏 2y
JenniferEgnor 16 hour shifts?! Are you a first responder? 2y

Clwojick @JenniferEgnor No, I work in the admitting/ bed allocation department at our local hospital. Our shifts are normally 8 hours, but I picked up some doubles since we‘re so short. 2y
KristiAhlers I love your layout for this in your bullet journal! I‘m setting mine up today as I finally have some free time! Do you mind if I copy your page? 2y
Clwojick @KristiAhlers Thank you! I wouldn‘t mind at all! ☺️💛🌼 2y

One from my TBR stacks. I learned of this when it was longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize. Sounds fascinating.

Can't find this cover in goodreads, but I love it. A friend sent me this paperback pub‘d in 1966 (story orig 1953!) Love this pic of my Oscar. He is missed; he was the goodest.

‘The land behing god‘s back‘. That‘s what #Montenegro calls itself. A forgotten land filled with mountains and stones and always defending itself against foreign aggressors.
This is the story of Wolf, a mountain boy and the architect of a bridge over the river Tara to make Montenegro more accessible. Shortly after the bridge is finished WWII starts and the bridge has to be destructed to protect the country once again.

#WeeklyForecast 45/20

I took this picture earlier and in the mean time have finished Leave the World Behind. Not worth the hype - as so often. Why can I still not resist those over hyped books?!
The Land Behind God‘s Back is what people in Montenegro call their country and I am reading this book for #ReadingEurope2020.
Next will be one I cannot resist any longer and fortunately it‘s my #doublespin: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone.

TrishB I‘m leaving that hyped one until an offer appears, too many meh reviews. 4y
BarbaraBB @TrishB You‘re wiser than I am, I know you do that often. So much better. Don‘t bother with this one. (edited) 4y
TrishB Lol 😁 I never feel as bad if I only pay 99p! 4y
Megabooks I was so disappointed in Leave the World Behind...especially the last half. 4y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Yes! Because it‘s premise and the style were promising and then it led to.. nothing at all. 4y

This was such a refreshing read. 🐱💚

Nala is an abandoned kitty who Dean finds while biking through Europe. The two form an incredible bond and this book follows their adventures and the friends they make along the way. Loved it! 💜💜💜

Bonus- it helped with #ReadingEurope2020 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

This was an interesting but often tedious short book written by an English journalist in the 1990s—the height of the Balkan crises. In a way it is dated, much has changed, but this book chronicles why & how this region split into a myriad of small countries. I read it for #readingeurope2020 #Montenegro and I certainly learned more about that country than I would have thought. The book is peppered with references, plus a chapter devoted to it & ⬇️

Texreader a conclusion that ties up a loose end from his visit to Montenegro. Also using this for whichever readathons are relevant for #scarathlon #teamslaughter #screamathon #sbooktober #gothtober #ripreadathon #trickortreadathon #nameinthetitle #ghostathon #gothicreadathon #slaughterthon @Clwojick @4thhouseontheleft 4y

BarbaraBB Your choices have been so helpful! Will you be joining us for #ReadingAsia2020? I hope so! 4y
Texreader @BarbaraBB I‘d like to but it depends on how many countries there are. All those stans may be my undoing. I‘m hoping to catch up a number of series I‘ve got started that have taken a backseat to 2020. Do y‘all have some sources for lists of countries? Maybe I‘ll do it but not be so OCD-ish about it? 😉 @Librarybelle (edited) 4y
BarbaraBB Lol, No need to be so OCD-ish although I totally understand 😀. @Librarybelle shares some good lists of countries in the Google form. Personally I was surprised how many countries I can cover with books on my shelves: 18! Among them 2 stans (Afghani and Paki). Three others will be challenging (Tadjiki, Turkmeni and Kyrgyz) I think! However, Kazach we did for Europe 😅 4y
Librarybelle @Texreader @BarbaraBB I am doing horribly with Europe this year, but of course I‘m already thinking about Asia next year! I‘m telling myself that I don‘t have to be OCD about book choices and getting a challenge accomplished, but my planning side of the brain is going absolutely crazy with no plan, haha! 4y
BarbaraBB I love the planning better than the result 😂 @Librarybelle 4y
