The Shining | Stephen King

Starting this tonight for #BookToScreen

I have seen the movie several times but never read the book. I hope it explains some of the really weird and out there scenes in the movie. I heard #StephenKing did not like the movie. So maybe the book is very different?

Crystalblu That is what I hear. There are a few litsy people doing an October read with this one. I will be starting soon! 7y
MinDea @Crystalblu, I think they are doing #BookToScreen buddy read that I host each month!? Do you plan to join? I post questions at the end of the month, no reading schedule. 7y

TrishB Book is different in some key areas. 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto It is different in some ways. It's also terrifying. 😂😂 This book forced me step away from it for a while in the middle. I also do some weird stuff since I read it. #lifetimephobias 7y
TheNextBook Might be my favorite book of all time. With that being said I get nightmares everytime I read it. 7y
Velvetsun Not my favorite King, but a must read. The book is quite different from the movie. Mostly in little ways. 7y
Crystalblu 😂😂 Yep, and you were the one who invented me! 7y
Scurvygirl King felt Kubrick didn't follow the vision of the book at all. So he did his own miniseries that I thought was a bit cheesy. I think the movie is brilliant as is the book, each in their own way. 7y
Rachellynnwright I love this book! I also love the movie! Can‘t go wrong either way. Movie adaptations don‘t always have to perfectly match the book, in my opinion. Each is it‘s own experience:) 7y
TricksyTails While the movie is not the same as the book, you can thoroughly enjoy them as separate works. They both stick with you. It had been a while since I've read The Shining and when I did a reread, I kept expecting things to happen that actually happened in the movie. Love them both. 7y
MinDea @Velvetsun what is your favorite King book? @tricksytails do you have one? 7y
TricksyTails @MinDea Ooh this is a difficult question for me because he has written so many good ones. I love most of his early works: Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining. IT gave me the worst nightmares but I love it. Joyland. The Bill Hodges series. Misery. Pet Sematary. Dark Tower. I'm usually awful at reading short stories but he has several great collections that gave us a few good movies: Night Shift, Different Seasons. It's impossible! I'm no help, am I? 7y
Velvetsun @MinDea My fave is Salem's Lot. Also 11/22/63. 😊 7y
