The first book in a collection of fairy tales featuring Black trans characters. Ella is a terrific protagonist. She is not one of those ridiculously strong characters who seems immune to the feelings of others. She is in pain at her treatment by her stepmother and stepsisters, and over-the-top ecstatically happy at being finally, truly seen for who she is by Princess Lizabetta. And the fairy godmother is awesome. #trans #fairytale #lgtbqia+ #pride

Very enjoyable! Loved the witchy happenings and though the romance aspect was a bit predictable, I didn‘t mind!

I really enjoyed this! I loved the MCs and there was a nod to The Outsiders (one of my all-time favorite books), which I really loved. It does touch on some deep issues and there are some TWs.

This totally lived up to the hype for me! Such a great, heartwarming story. I loved the MCs, August and Jane, but I loved their supporting cast of characters even more. They were all very inclusive and delightful!

#bookspinbingo - got a bingo!

And happy birthday, Sarah! 🎉🎉🎉

TheAromaofBooks Yay bingo!!!! And thank you so much for the birthday wishes!! 3y

kspenmoll You can do it! 5y
Hooked_on_books It‘s a wonderful book 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Hooked_on_books I‘m enjoying it‘s quirkiness. But I‘m also concerned that she won‘t ultimately present transgender in a positive and appropriate way. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @kspenmoll So far, I‘m on track. Crossing my fingers. Life has been so busy. 5y
Hooked_on_books I think she did in the end. And of course the main focus is on this family and their efforts to do the “right” thing for their child, without having any idea what that is. 5y

Nice ARC package from a soon-to-be-self-published book. I appreciate the personal thank you from the author.

Synopsis: Two gay men take a vintage Chris-Craft motor yacht across the American Heartland. Their encounter with local conservative culture is the subject of River Queens.

These are my third quarter plans for #Booked2018. I‘m pretty psyched for all four, although I know Little Life will gut me.

I‘m a little out of step because I finished a few prompts from this quarter already. That‘s me, the #rebelreader. Right @Cinfhen ?? 😎

#beachread — Beach Town
#japanesethriller — Out
#setatschool — The Broken Girls
#LGTBQIA+ MC — A Little Life (also #pop18 and #letterY for #LitsyAtoZ)

Cinfhen Nice choices and 💯you are my original #RebelReader 🙌🏻❣️ 6y
sloanghost I've heard some pretty horrible things about A Little Life, good luck 6y
alisiakae I read into the 3rd quarter, too. 😃 I am kind of dreading the #beachread, it‘s not my typical genre, although I do like Dorothea Benton Frank‘s lowcountry books. I‘m leaning towards an Elin Hildebrand that I randomly own (no idea how it came into my possession lol). 6y

Reviewsbylola Looking forward to your review of Out!! 6y
laundry_piles I have totally lost track of this challenge 😂 typical me 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @sloanghost I know. But I like a really heavy, emotional read sometimes. I just wrote a review for a debut, and my main complaint was it wasn‘t emotional at ALL. This one will be the other end of the scale. 🤞🏻 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Yes. I. Am. 😘 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft I‘m not much of a beach reader either. But I‘m hoping this one will be fun and light. 🤞🏻 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Reviewsbylola Aww thanks. Hoping it‘s not too grim. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @laundry_piles No worries. Join us this quarter. Or not. We like ya either way! 😍 6y
sloanghost Oh, I wasn't referring to the emotional content, I literally mean like...I have been hearing bad things about it as a book, namely that it's gay tragedy porn written by and for straight people. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @sloanghost Ahh. Got it. I‘ll have to hunt down some reviews, so I can keep that in mind. Thanks for the heads up. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @sloanghost Aaand the FIRST blog I read about this topic had a giant spoiler in it. Damn. That just sucks. I hate when reviewers do that. 🤬 6y
Reviewsbylola Omg that‘s awful about the spoiler!! I hate when that happens. So bad. Can you tell me what it was (with a spoiler tag 😂😂) and I‘ll let you know if the book is totally ruined for you or not. 😬😬 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Reviewsbylola It was that Jude takes his own life. I think I can read it still. But I am PISSED. I work so hard to keep from spoiling big plot points in my reviews. It‘s just crappy when reviewers don‘t care about their readers. 6y
Reviewsbylola Also, the spoiler thing happened to me with Lonesome Dove. The intro literally spoiled a big plot point at the very end of the book. Luckily it didn‘t ruin the book for me and there ended up being something even bigger that happened that would have been much more of an upsetting spoiler had I known about it. 6y
Reviewsbylola Ok, I think you can still enjoy the book knowing that. But I agree, it‘s so effing annoying and rude. I hope you commented on the post and gave her a piece of your mind lol. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Reviewsbylola Thanks! Not sure if I‘ll comment, but I may. 😎 6y
laundry_piles @BarbaraTheBibliophage thank goodness!! 🤗😉 6y
BarbaraBB Out is very good too! 6y
Becker A Little Life was an emotionally difficult book to get through but it is a rewarding read. 6y
Cinfhen How freakin annoying, Barb! You still have plenty more heartache to look forward to 😉 6y
sloanghost Oh my lord I read all these comments and was like OH NO WAS I RUDE until got to the top lol 6y
kspenmoll Lost track of this challenge too but plan to join in this quarter. Love that you all made it no pressure! 6y
