12-14-22: My 125th finished book of 2022! Tough material. Ray Lennox, a policeman from Scotland, finds himself in Florida, with his fiancé, trying to decompress after a harrowing case of child molestation/murder. Through a series of bad choices, Ray becomes ensnared in another child endangerment situation and takes off with the 10 year old to save her life and redeem his own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️?#️⃣1️⃣2️⃣5️⃣

If you might be triggered by a damaged coke snorting violent teetering on the edge Scottish cop on medical leave in Miami with his wedding planning obsessed fiancée, don‘t read this. He is obsessed with ridding the world of evil, pedophiles top of the list, and brutal about it; badge or not. Welsh is an acquired taste, but worth it in the end with finger crossing fragile redemption.

This is a dark read because it raises a lot of disturbing issues.

He weaves a good, gripping story and it held my interest all the way to the end.

Irvine Welsh never disappoints.

There is the Irvine Welsh stamp of good writing on this one, but the story (thankfully in a way) wraps up too neatly- bad gets bad and good triumphs. And because of this, I feel Welsh went on a Floridian fishing trip to get Hollywood execs‘ attention trolling for a movie deal- still an exceptional read!

There isn't a moment to catch your breath because it's a continuous adventure.
Personally, I love Welsh and I love "Gas" Terry, a character who with his many weaknesses is hard to forget.

Trainspotting | Irvine Welsh

Books 1-4 of the Mark Renton series, any fans of these books?

I've seen the movie Trainspotting about 200 times but never read the book(s)

Came across these in charity shops and intend to read them in sequence at some point.

I'm enjoying Under The Skin so much, need to make a point of reading more Scots language books. 💫

WellReadCatLady I love these books! Takes awhile to get into the rhythm of the language but it eventually happens. 4y
JaclynW I love the Trainspotting movie!! I didn't realize it was a book series though! I do own the Trainspotting book, but haven't read it. And yes, the language! Those accents!! 4y
eeclayton I read Trainspotting many years ago, what I remember most is the struggle with the language. English isn't my mother tongue and the text was very challenging. Maybe I should try and re-read it some time. 4y

TheNeverendingTBR @Raereerie I can definitely see how it could be difficult for people outside of Scotland to understand Scottish slang, I'm Scottish and my girlfriend is English; she says "What?" about 1000 times a day! ? 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @JaclynW The movie is so good, I love it! 💫 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @eeclayton Definitely, go for it! 😁 4y

Had a relatively good week. Had a few difficult days sticking to my new diet but I only caved on one of those days when I went out to eat. Spent a lot of time cooking and baking healthy recipes. This week I‘m meeting with a fitness trainer so I‘m hoping to start adding that to my routine. #BFCR4 #bookfitnesschallenge @wanderinglynn @wanderinglynn @Hestapleton @IndoorDame @Hufflepuffle

I kind of love-hated everyone in this book. Like, they‘re all pretty vile people. But still fascinating and hilarious. This was a lot of fun to read, and I learned some very colorful new insults. #irvinewelsh

Trainspotting was a brilliant film from the nineties that is one which helped turn me into such a movie addict. 21 years later, the sequel doesn't disappoint in the slightest.

Now maybe it's time to actually read the novels that they were based on 🤔
