This book was absolutely horrifying.
I had nightmares.
My husband had to tell me to stop reading it.
But I couldn't.
It was too good.
At 60%, I thought we had it all figured out. WHAT MORE COULD THERE BE?? Oh, there was more.
I told all of my friends to avoid this book, not because it was bad 👎, but because it was awful 😱. Omg.

BarbaraJean This was a re-read (second read) for me. It made me so angry the first time--I felt tricked! But then every objection I had was answered by flipping back through the book. Genius but infuriating! This time, I remembered whodunnit, but I second guessed myself all the way through, thinking surely I must have remembered wrong. But no. She just got me again! 3mo

ImperfectCJ I was amazed at how beautiful NB is when I drove through a few years ago. My first experience of the boreal forest biome, and I loved it! I definitely plan to go back, although it's a bigger trip from California than it was from Massachusetts. 4mo

Cuilin Absence makes the heart grow fonder and can lead to loneliness. James misses his friend Godfrey, Sherlock misses Watson, the family miss their “healthy” son. The butler misses the young Godfrey and Godfrey misses his life of inclusion. 5mo

Also, Godfrey's “blanched“ appearance may not only be due to his illness but could also be psychologically symbolic of the emotional toll of his isolation. 5mo
