⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Silver digs into what the calls “The River,” characterized by people who take big, calculated risks in order to maximize payoffs and profiles and interviews professional gamblers, Silicon Valley founders, cryptocurrency inventors and others to illustrate several related concepts. The last few chapters include a philosophical look at the potential outcomes of AI. It was interesting.
My Favorite Book by Dostoyevsky
Short, impactful, and as is customary for him, it manages to unfold particularly complex psychological processes through story and characters. In my work, I have heard stories from gamblers, but reading the book and entering the soul and emotional turmoil of a gambler, even feeling empathy towards him, is certainly beyond my ability to describe the book. It is worth reading not just once.
This was a charming YA heist of a group of all asexual friends!
While there are a lot of things I like about Las Vegas, the actual casinos are pretty low on the list. 🤣
#SundayFunday Hope you all have a great day and don‘t forget to tag me!
‘The handicapping of horse races requires no less prowess than bridge, poker, or chess. The skills of the expert handicapper are, in fact, closely comparable to those of the good bridge, poker, or chess player.‘
I read an old edition of this. Information regarding the trainers, jockeys, etc. is outdated, but the rest of the book was interesting and useful.

A pretty good reading month for me!
If I had to pick a favorite I would say…
Dial A for Aunties!

🐦⬛This middle grade book takes place in St. Louis in the early 1800s so of course I had to read it on our trip. It was the perfect choice - after a day reading about the history of St. Louis it was fun to go there in a fiction world and see it all brought to life.
🚧 The language used to describe non white people is fitting for the time, not our modern era.

Although the idiom #DownForTheCount is sports metaphor that expresses a negative outcome for whoever or whatever the speaker is referencing, for some reason it made me think of counting cards & laying them down.
I chose this book & “21” the movie made from it where 6 MIT math students used counting cards in Blackjack to get more than 3 million $$$ from Vegas casinos. ♠️♥️♣️♦️
Ch 64: a little Becky history, since we saw her last #gambling #stealing #cheating #deaththreats #butdowecare 🤷🏻♀️ #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade (this is the other movie Becky 🤣)
1. I‘d have to say Blood Aces by Swanson by the slimmest of margins.
2. I‘m a sucker for old stories about Las Vegas, and the life of Bennie Binion‘s life, to include how he shaped Vegas, fits the bill. I still don‘t understand how he avoided spending the majority of his life in prison! 🤷♂️
