Not book related but I sent a pic of my youngest to our family group chat tonight (my husband and two adult kids), and this was the result. (Rex - not his actual name - is my husband 🤦‍♀️).

In the 12th addition to the Daisy Dalrymple series, Daisy finds a sore tooth can be deadly…when she discovers her dentist dead. What transpires is a set of lies and secrets that Daisy has to unravel. A great addition to the series, and Daisy knows just how to wheedle information out of suspects!

Doctor De Soto is a MF picture book about a mouse dentist that is the best in town but refuses to treat “dangerous” animals. But when a Fox shows up and needs his help, what will Dr. Soto do? This book is best enjoyed as an ID. Here is an activity sheet to help students make predictions about the story http://www.judynewmanatscholastic.com/blog/2020/03/doctor-de-soto-classroom-acti...

Spearsall This seems interesting like it will keep the students attention to the front. The EL strategy you used is my favorite I‘m so glad it works with this! 4y
DrSpalding Judy Newman is a favorite of mine! She is a wonderful educator that represents Scholastic. Follow her blog and book recommendations. Excellent resource nice English learner/universal design principle alignment. 4y

I think everyone may know the MF book, and the series of Little Critter! Little Critter stories are great to introduce kids to the different parts of growing up, like this one is all about going to the dentist! This book is great for younger readers, and would be beneficial to them by doing a PR! Students can practice reading together while also learn about real-life things. https://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/partner_reading #ucflae3414sp21

Adodd1 The link provided shows some great strategies on how to utilize partner reading. The UDL strategy best fit would be 5.3, which involves building fluency with support (partner reader) for practice and performance. The EL strategy best fit would be 8. It is important to first model to the student how partner reading works and what fluent reading sounds like so they can make connections during this activity. 4y

Definitely one of his darker books maybe not for those who have a phobia of dentists 😂 . I hadn‘t realised until we had finished this that the reading age is recommended 9-12 🤦‍♀️ no wonder I was skipping over passages about the tooth fairy being not real 🧚‍♀️
Saying that my daughter loved it and I‘m hoping it‘s made her want to keep her teeth extra clean 😂

My cousin utilised her covid downtime by digitally drawing this for me. That‘s my 2yo with his favourite book. Written on top is his first full sentence-“Let‘s read a book.” 🥰

In this F book Doctor De Soto, an intelligent and superb dentist, works on patients of all sizes with the help of his wife. Although he has a strict policy to not treat animals dangerous to mice, he decides to help a Fox with a toothache. Doctor De Soto and his wife must outfox this sneaky fox, and the ending is truly a laughing feat! This Newberry winner would be an excellent IR for students that could be paired with an activity. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Kyleigh_J The publishers website has a great teachers guide with activities to go along with this book https://images.macmillan.com/folio-assets/teachers-guides/9780374418106TG.pdf UDL 8.3 foster collaboration and community is satisfied by these lesson plans as students are often working together as a class during the activities. EL 13 use preview/review strategies is satisfied as students will complete these activities after reading the book to review. 5y
LizzettM This book looks so cute! It would be a great way for students to interact and discuss the main idea of the story(: 5y
MaddyJ I would love to read this! I think this would be a fun story for the kids to rad as well. And I love that I could use an activity using the link you posted! 5y
DrSpalding Using the publisher‘s website is always a wise move. This is one of the very few picture books that one a Newbery honor. Good choice. 5y
