It was like reading a blog or a journal. I enjoyed the dramatics of it all.

Spent the last hour chortling on the couch — much to my pups‘ continued annoyance — as I read this one.
A quick lil‘ epistolary novella written by Jane Austen when she was just 14, her wit and humor are on ready display here as she pokes fun at some of the absurd, overly-romantic tropes popular in stories at the time.

Favorite part was this sage deathbed advice:

Beware of swoons…
Run mad as often as you choose; but do not faint.

Day 8: #Friendship (or “freindship”, according to Jane‘s spelling 😉)

Love and Freindship is an epistolary novel written by Austen in her teens for the amusement of her family.

CrowCAH Have you seen the 2016 movie Love and Friendship? It‘s pretty close to the text. 3y
LeahBergen @CrowCAH I have seen that movie (loved it!) but it is based on Lady Susan (another of her epistolary novels) and they decided to call it by the name of this novel. Bizarre, don‘t you think? 3y
CrowCAH @LeahBergen yes, very confusing. 3y

Jane Austen must have been such a fun kid! Joyful, witty, observant (of both people and literary fashions), and wise.

Fascinating and entertaining! It was so interesting to see Austen's writing develop. I think a lot of these early writings were so funny. Some definitely read like stories a kid or young teenager would make up and I found myself laughing out loud. I also really enjoyed Lady Susan. I thought she was a fun character until about the halfway point but overall, I still enjoyed this early Austen novel. I especially recommend this to Austen fans.
