#ReadJanuary Day 7: #booksaboutnature

Doing a bit of catch-up.

This book takes place in Appalachia and ruminates on how people are--sometimes without realizing it--influenced by nature in a primal way. I recall loving this book.

mllemay I really enjoyed it too! 8y

I have to give credit to THE SOUND OF A WILD SNAIL EATING for pushing me toward nature books 6 years ago, which I always imagined were out of my scope, although I enjoy nature immensely. I guess I assumed it would all be like WALDEN and it isn't! Here are a few purchases from 2016, but I have a shelf dedicated to nature books. #readjanuary #booksaboutnature

abbylibrarian Have you read The Soul of an Octopus? I really liked that one! 8y
EvieBee @abbylibrarian It's sitting on my shelf but I haven't read it yet. Thank you for the recommendation! I've already moved it over to my TBR shelf (literal). 8y

We were given this & 'wildlife of greater Adelaide' for Christmas. They are fascinating! Not to mention we were visited by a stumpy tailed lizard yesterday and could look it up in the wildlife book. 👍 #ReadJanuary #booksaboutnature

Pickpick

#booksaboutnature #readjanuary ..so I'm catching up since I've been having some meltdowns and anxiety lately. Nature is the only other thing besides reading that can pick me up and give me comfort.

Cinfhen Glad you're feeling better 💜 8y
DaniRa @Cinfhen thank you😌 8y

DaniRa @Jenshootsweddings thank you very much. This community is so what was missing from my world. I appreciate the support. 😌 8y
JoeStalksBeck I dealt with severe anxiety for years. I finally realized I was creating it. Figured if I can create this much negativity I should be able to create that much positivity. It took a long time and a lot of mental gymnastics but I conquered it without meds. Hang in there! You can conquer this too! 📚❤📚❤❤️😊 (edited) 8y
DaniRa @Book_Addict wow thank you, that is actually extremely helpful advice and I can't believe I didn't think of that myself. ❤ 8y
Nebklvr @DaniRa Here's hoping for a healthy and happy new year 8y
Betty A gratitude journal helped me. A line a day on something good or positive that happened that day. 8y
DaniRa Nice idea @Betty will add to anti anxiety plan😌 8y
DaniRa @Nebklvr thank you 😌I wish you a happy and healthy new year as well 8y

#readjanuary #day7 #booksaboutnature These aren't "technically" about nature, but about earth magic I suppose you'd call it. The Waverley women have always had a knack of magic. The food they make from the herbs, flowers & vegetables they grow in the shade of the big apple tree in their yard has magical properties. It can make people happy, nostalgic, make them only see the good things about your home or remember the things they love about you.

Chachic Oh Garden Spells is a lovely choice! 8y
Gayan I love all of Sarah Addison Allen's books. 💓 8y

Adorable! 🍁Maple's parents plant a tree in her honor when they're pregnant with her. She and the tree grow together, and she loves it dearly. One day, her parents plant a willow tree. 😊I love how there are so many good things packed into one little book. Growth, seasons, change, new siblings, love of nature, outdoor play... it really is a darling read. #raisingreaders

"Who does not love the sunbeams, and feel brighter and merrier as he watches them playing on the wall, sparkling like diamonds on the ripples of the sea, or making bows of colored light on the waterfall? Is not the sunbeam so dear to us that it has become a household word for all that is merry and gay?" ?✨ #readjanuary #booksaboutnature
