5✨ I‘ll admit it took me a bit to get the sisters and passengers of the Titanic straight, but I knew it would have to be a lot of characters based on what we know would happen by the end. I like that the author did a lot of research to make it a mostly true story. I loved this story! 🥰

Roary47 @staci.reads The chocolate didn‘t last a week, but I‘m sure this will be a re-read one day. Thank you again for the gift. 🥰💛 1mo

4⭐️ Really liked this book; it would have been higher if the scenes from the 1950s were just as the ones that were about Maria‘s past. The story was not at all like the movie and Maria‘s story was much more compelling than the musical would lead one to believe. #2025 #biographicalfiction #fiction #1920s #1930s #historicalfiction

Her Hidden Genius is about the life and work of Rosalind Franklin whose work was instrumental in discovering the structure of DNA. She faced many obstacles as a woman in science and this fictionalized account of her life includes not only her difficulties with colleagues in the lab but also her parents, who struggled to comprehend her passion for research. Yet she remained committed to her work despite everything ⬇️

mhillis I had been looking for a nonfiction book about Franklin, but this novel included enough scientific information for me. I remember learning about Watson and Crick in school but I don‘t think Franklin was mentioned, so I‘m glad I could learn more about her discoveries! 1mo
tpixie This is what I bought after reading the book. MB does such a great job with accurate historical fiction ! 1mo
mhillis @tpixie that‘s great, thank you for the recommendation!! 1mo

4.25⭐️ Really liked the book. While the book read a bit simplistic, it was very well written. The story flowed well and I enjoyed the story as well. #2025 #biographicalfiction #historicalfiction #fiction #wwii #holocaust #bookclub

I read Oscar Wilde for the first time 2 years ago and fell in love with his writing. When I saw this historic fiction book based on his marriage and relationships, I was instantly intrigued. The book is slow going, but I really enjoyed it. It felt well-researched, and I thought the struggle for Oscar between his love for his family and his desire to be true to himself was written in such a beautiful, bittersweet way.

This book was really fantastic until the last bit. It just sort of...ended. Author just didn't stick the landing. It felt awkward and piecemeal. But most of the book was really very good, and I'd still recommend it.

I read “Anne of Green Gables” for the first time two years ago, and since then, I‘ve become obsessed with everything Lucy Maud Montgomery and Anne Shirley. 💛

Ruthiella Do you know about #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead hosted by @BarbaraJean ? They are all about Anne and LMM! 2mo
Mirazzles @Ruthiella no, I didn‘t know anything about that! Thank you! 🥰 2mo
BarbaraJean @Ruthiella Thanks for the tag! @Mirazzles We have several parallel LMM buddy reads right now, reading through her complete journals and interspersing re-reads of her novels and related books (ones she mentions in her journals or books that have been compared to her books, etc.) We‘re finishing up Vol. 3 of the journals this week and start Anne‘s House of Dreams next week. You‘re very welcome to join any part of it that catches your fancy! 2mo

Mirazzles @BarbaraJean that would be nice! How do I join? Just read and comment ? 🥰 2mo
BarbaraJean @Mirazzles I have several tag lists and I can add you to any or all! Then you just read and comment as desired! We have discussions on Saturdays and the pace is roughly 100 pages per week. The overall buddy read is #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead and the tags are: #LMMReread, #LMMJournals, and #LMMAdjacent for books related to LMM and her books. I‘ll go tag you for our current schedule and then also the poll I have up for future #LMMAdjacent books! 2mo
Mirazzles @BarbaraJean that‘d be awesome! Thanks so much! 🥰 2mo

I had mixed feelings about this one - I found the story of Hattie McDaniel fascinating and heartbreaking… I definitely felt angry and sad at times at the blatant racism she had to endure - my issue was the fact that it was written in first person… for some reason I felt that her internal dialogue was just too much. Overall I‘m glad to have read it and learn about her life - thanks for putting it on the list @MallenNC #auldlangspine @monalyisha

Butterfinger Interesting!!!! 2mo
MallenNC I‘m glad you read it. I put it on my list because I thought it brought needed attention to Hattie McDaniel‘s life beyond Gone With the Wind. 2mo
TheBookHippie Read the ARC and had the feeling it wasn't her voice I was reading. I'm not sure. 2mo
