The 100 | Kass Morgan

I don‘t think I‘ve posted this one yet. My #worstof21 are easily these three.

The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu was a DNF due to the misleading blurb. I loved the info about the books and the subject‘s family, but couldn‘t handle weeding through political & war movements to get to those snippets.

The 100 is all teen angst & romance with very little else. Skip the book, watch the tv show instead. The show has so much more depth which I loved.⬇️

MeganAnn The Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires was a complete let down. I hated the gaslighting, how the women were treated & how they just sort of accepted it. So much more could have been done with this premise! I am not a fan of how this author wrote his main female characters. I guess I‘ve just read too many vampire novels with strong, kick-ass women which I prefer — I‘m looking at you Anita Blake! 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon 3y
megnews Thanks for sharing!! Happy new year!! 3y
MaleficentBookDragon I really liked Southern Bookclub because it made me so angry and frustrated. I wanted to just shake those ladies. 🤬Grady is a must read author for me though he always has one scene in each book that totally grosses me out. His latest book is my top pick of the year.😁 3y
MeganAnn @MaleficentBookDragon seems like you liked it for the same reason I disliked it! I wanted to shake those ladies too and I kept hoping that maybe they‘d wake up and redeem themselves. 🤷‍♀️ I‘m not really a far of horror usually either, but I do love all things supernatural. I‘ve been debating on whether or not to give Hendrix another try for #authoramonth in October 2022. 3y
elkeOriginal The gaslighting of those southern ladies seemed all too real. So while I hated it, it seemed well written and sadly accurate 😕 3y

Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon 😺
Blessed Monsters was the worst ending to a trilogy, The Sanatorium was extremely overrated, Toil and Trouble was absurd, Camp Slaughter was too ridiculous and The Last Final Girl I couldn't even finish.

I forgot to post this back when everyone was doing their #worstof21 😂 good idea, though! The razzies are always fun. Some of these were mistakes to even start as I should have known they are not my speed. Oops!

I've seen a few of you posting your #worstof21 & thought I'd join in! These all got 2 stars from me...

Most overrated: Normal People (this is my most controversial pick as I know lots of you loved it, but I really didn't rate it.)

Most forgettable: The Girl who wasn't there

Worst mystery: Essex Poison

Most preachy: Bad Pharma (decent message, but the smug tone enraged me)

Just a bit crap: DM for murder

Would ❤ to see yours! 👀

Branwen I wasn't a fan of Normal People either! 😝 3y
Laughterhp I didn‘t like Normal people either! 3y
The_Penniless_Author Maybe if the girl who wasn't there had been there you would have remembered her better 😉 (sorry, I'll show myself out now 😞). 3y
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen @Laughterhp I'm glad it's not just me! 🙂😊 3y
RaeLovesToRead @The_Penniless_Author Haha, yep... keep walking!!! 🤣🤣🤣 3y

I bet at least a couple of these will be #unpopularopinion, but these were my #worstof21 — with Lakesedge coming in at the absolute top of that list. I‘ll say re The End of October that it would have made for great NF, but I felt the author failed in the “story telling” aspect of writing a novel.

Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon ! 😁😘

RamsFan1963 I don't know if I'd say worst, but Ready Play Two was very disappointing. 3y
Reggie The End of October?!!!!! 😲you‘re dead to me. Lol jk. I loved that book. But I know not every book is for everyone. 😁 3y
Avanders @RamsFan1963 right — it wasn‘t a 1 star for me… (it was 2 😜), and it wasn‘t nearly as bad as Lakesedge… but even going into it prepared that it was going to be disappointing… it was still disappointing! ☹️ 3y
Avanders @Reggie I knowwwww! Lol that was probably the biggest unpopular opinion… I think it was because I just wanted to like it so much, so the disappointment was too sharp 😕 Also, it wasn‘t a 1-star either 😁 it was 2… 3y

Hands down, my #worstof21 is Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. It really needed to come with a trigger warning.

Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon

megnews Oh wow. I‘ve contemplated reading this. What‘s the TW? 3y
Crazeedi I really liked it, but I can see how it wouldn't be right for some. @megnews 3y

Ahw06 @Crazeedi I think if any of the highly rated reviews I read, or even the library description, had a TW I wouldn‘t have felt so strongly about not liking it. It was really not at all what I expected but I could see how someone could like it. Definitely not the book I was expecting 3y
Crazeedi @Ahw06 I definitely understand that! I didnt pay attention to the blurbs about it. That's a shame because some people need to know that 3y
Ahw06 @Crazeedi totally agree but I‘m glad you liked it. That‘s the best thing about books, there‘s something for everyone and everyone takes things differently 😊 3y
Crazeedi @Ahw06 yes!!! 3y
megnews @Ahw06 oh yes, I‘d want to know that too. 3y
MaleficentBookDragon I loved this book but I understand why others would not. 3y
Ahw06 @MaleficentBookDragon it‘s a popular one for sure, I just expected something a tiny bit lighter 3y

My #WorstOf21
Nothing But Blackened Teeth - Really disliked this! My pick for worst of the year. Waste of a great story idea.

BAILED-
The Flight Attendant - 👎🏻book; ❤️ TV show.
Bitter Orange - boring.
Hiding in the Bathroom - not what I was hoping for.
The Only Good Indians - ❤️ the story, but... there was way too much basketball and motorcycles. I‘ve read a few of his books and love his stories, but not his writing style. #unpopularopinion

megnews I have The Only Good Indians on my TBR but I don‘t think I‘d go for a lot of basketball and motorcycles either. Hmmm…. Thanks for sharing! 3y
MaleficentBookDragon @megnews So many of my friends love his books. I just end up skimming because the stories are great, I just don't care for his writing style. 3y
Avanders Interesting list! I can do one… 🤔😁 3y
Nessavamusic 100 agree about Nothing But Blackened Teeth, was one of my worst of the year also 3y

Upon further consideration, I‘m lowering this to a so-so. It‘s not “bad,” but the annoying aspects really were quite annoying. Mainly, the historical timeline that ties in with nothing unless you‘re reading the whole series, and the many conversations that served only as exposition. The talking animals were fine, and the contemporary story was somewhat interesting.

2.5 stars. More in comments.

#worstof21

Susanita Dishonorable mention. The story was very compelling, but the audiobook narrator got on my nerves so much, I nearly threw my phone across the room multiple times. 3y
megnews That drives me crazy when a book should be good but the audio ruins it. Thanks for sharing! 3y
