Christmas at the Cat Caf | Jessica Redland
post image
Pickpick

Having discovered Jessica Redland last Christmas and enjoyed her books since, I was keen to jump into this book about Tabby setting up a Cat Cafe, which seems a novel concept. Unfortunately just before opening her partner deserts her and if that isn‘t enough she also is suffering from the debilitating condition of fibromyalgia. There also seem to be people around her that want to stop the cafe opening.

Andrew65 I loved this book as much as her previous books and do enjoy the writing style of her books, and the romance style of them. I do feel it‘s good that people write about people suffering with medical conditions, and I learned a lot about fibromyalgia in this book which will make me understand it better, but I can see how this might put some people off who read books for escapism. 11mo
Andrew65 However I have to say I felt this was written very well into the book, and only added to the reading experience and the story for me.

I felt the story was very well written, and in particular the slow burn of the developing relationship in Tabby‘s life, and found myself rooting for them. I loved the main characters and was very glad to spend some of the Christmas season with them.

Andrew65 I‘m not particularly a cat person, but despite that I did love the story and the unique cat part of it, although I‘m sure I wouldn‘t spend the extra money to go to a cat cafe. Just a word of warning if anyone is a cat lover there is one part of the story that could be upsetting. However, even that I feel was very well written in the story.

Andrew65 Overall if you enjoy these romance style of books I would definitely recommend this book, and gave it five stars. There isn‘t one book by Jessica Redland that I haven‘t enjoyed very much, and look forward to reading more books by her.

This was SO pretty. At times sweet, funny or heartwrenching.
After being burned by the gods, Angrboda resigns herself to existence alone in the Ironwood until Loki returns her heart. It takes more than the trickster god to bring her from her life of solitude. As her life grows, so does the threat from the gods.
I‘m not knowledgeable on Norse mythology by any stretch, but it was exactly the characterization of Loki that I wanted & expected.

Sargar114 I really enjoyed this one too! Glad you liked it! 12mo

5/5 ⭐️ Team read for #CandyCaneCrushers #wintergames 🍭 I loved it! Christmas market romance with some magic and so many Wisconsin (my home state) references! This really made me miss kringle and wish I had ordered some to be shipped this year. (O & H Danish Bakery is my favorite!)

This was pure fluff and exactly what I needed to get me out of a mini slump. Back in Christmas Falls, the B&B owner falls for an unexpected guest

This isn‘t what you‘d expect from the title, it isn‘t a cosy Christmas love story. Romance does figure in a subliminal way but it is quite a hard hitting story set at Christmas about a group of former college friends snowed in for Christmas. I wouldn‘t say the characters are the most lovable characters you could wish to meet but the story does work and both the story and characters grow on you the more you read.

#WinterGames

Andrew65 As the story progresses there are quite a few sad and hard hitting moments, with incidents relayed that affect people‘s lives significantly. I felt overall this was a good story and whilst not what was expected the story did really hold up well. Amongst all the relationship information, told in the twin timelines of the current time and their time at college, there is an element of mystery that comes to an head towards the end of the book. 12mo
Andrew65 Overall this is a story I‘d recommend, and an author I‘d recommend, but do not go into it think this is the normal cutesy Christmas Fayre.

(Trigger Warning : This story does involve a sexual assault, or at least the ramifications of it)

AnnR Sounds good! If I just based my decision on the title and cover, I might pass up this book as it sounds too romancey for my reading tastes. 12mo
Andrew65 @AnnR There‘s definitely a relationship / romance element to it, but it has far more depth than that. It feels more about friends and their relationship than that. 12mo

Hot Mall Santa | A J Truman

This was super silly (and spicy) but fun. The little town of Oakville, Illinois is in for a surprise this Christmas when the new guy playing the mall Santa is Hot 🔥 Tom is a simple retail man trying to get through the holiday season but he manages to strike up a friendship with Santa (aka Randall) and soon finds there's more to him underneath the Santa suit 😉 But how can ordinary Tom compete with all of Santa's drooling moms and groupies?

This was my favorite book of the month so far. Morgan is Ali's sister's childhood best friend, whom she also had a massive crush on, and still might. When the two women reconnect on a cancelled flight home for Christmas, they decide to make it from Glasgow to Devon by any means possible, no matter the many setbacks along the way. Or the growing attraction between them. This was the perfect combination of romance, holiday hijinks & emotional growth
