Christmas at the Cat Caf | Jessica Redland
post image
Pickpick

Having discovered Jessica Redland last Christmas and enjoyed her books since, I was keen to jump into this book about Tabby setting up a Cat Cafe, which seems a novel concept. Unfortunately just before opening her partner deserts her and if that isn‘t enough she also is suffering from the debilitating condition of fibromyalgia. There also seem to be people around her that want to stop the cafe opening.

Andrew65 I loved this book as much as her previous books and do enjoy the writing style of her books, and the romance style of them. I do feel it‘s good that people write about people suffering with medical conditions, and I learned a lot about fibromyalgia in this book which will make me understand it better, but I can see how this might put some people off who read books for escapism. 11mo
Andrew65 However I have to say I felt this was written very well into the book, and only added to the reading experience and the story for me.

I felt the story was very well written, and in particular the slow burn of the developing relationship in Tabby‘s life, and found myself rooting for them. I loved the main characters and was very glad to spend some of the Christmas season with them.
11mo
Andrew65 I‘m not particularly a cat person, but despite that I did love the story and the unique cat part of it, although I‘m sure I wouldn‘t spend the extra money to go to a cat cafe. Just a word of warning if anyone is a cat lover there is one part of the story that could be upsetting. However, even that I feel was very well written in the story.

Andrew65 Overall if you enjoy these romance style of books I would definitely recommend this book, and gave it five stars. There isn‘t one book by Jessica Redland that I haven‘t enjoyed very much, and look forward to reading more books by her.

This isn‘t what you‘d expect from the title, it isn‘t a cosy Christmas love story. Romance does figure in a subliminal way but it is quite a hard hitting story set at Christmas about a group of former college friends snowed in for Christmas. I wouldn‘t say the characters are the most lovable characters you could wish to meet but the story does work and both the story and characters grow on you the more you read.

#WinterGames

Andrew65 As the story progresses there are quite a few sad and hard hitting moments, with incidents relayed that affect people‘s lives significantly. I felt overall this was a good story and whilst not what was expected the story did really hold up well. Amongst all the relationship information, told in the twin timelines of the current time and their time at college, there is an element of mystery that comes to an head towards the end of the book. 11mo
Andrew65 Overall this is a story I‘d recommend, and an author I‘d recommend, but do not go into it think this is the normal cutesy Christmas Fayre.

(Trigger Warning : This story does involve a sexual assault, or at least the ramifications of it)

AnnR Sounds good! If I just based my decision on the title and cover, I might pass up this book as it sounds too romancey for my reading tastes. 11mo
Andrew65 @AnnR There‘s definitely a relationship / romance element to it, but it has far more depth than that. It feels more about friends and their relationship than that. 11mo

A quick read to see me into Christmas Morning, a re-read.
Always surprises me how short this book is.
I think it makes a better film than a book.

I absolutely loved this book from the very first page to the very last. This felt like the ultimate feel good book and it had me with a natural smile on my face throughout the book. I had not read the other books in the series but that didn‘t spoil my enjoyment of the book at all - however I will now be wanting to read all the other books in the series.

13th book finished for #DashingDecember
#WinterGames

Andrew65 This was the ultimate love story of two people who had been through the mill with a previous relationship breaking down that led to them withdrawing from life. It was good to seem them slowly come out of that situation and to see their rebirth and awakening. Throughout I was totally invested in the characters. I also like the way their story was wrapped in a wider story that again was excellently written. 11mo
Andrew65 I loved also how the setting was almost a character in itself and that is what will make me want to read the other books in the series.

If you want a good romance set against a Winter and Christmas backdrop I cannot recommend this book enough. A must read.

This was a really enjoyable Christmas read covering the story of Eva who has reached a crisis point in her life, following a period of grief and hiding herself away in other things. Suddenly over a Christmas away her gran re-appears to her and this is the cue for ghostly intervention.

#DashingDecember #Book10

Andrew65 I felt this was a very cleverly put together book that gave the right amount of time to introducing us to Eva‘s life, the ghostly interventions and what happened following this intervention. Eva, and the reader, definitely goes on a rollercoaster of emotions seeing her life crisis from different viewpoints, and there are some hard hitting punches thrown in there too. (edited) 11mo
Andrew65 I love the plotting of the book and the characters were cleverly written so that you ended up caring about all of them.

I loved the ending to the book and some of the messages that it delivered, as well as seeing the changes in Eva, it do be aware this isn‘t all sunshine and roses.

I would definitely recommend this book, and would be keen to read more books by this author.

First book finished for #WinterGames, although this was a carry over from November. Book 6 in the excellent William Warwick Series. Once again Miles Faulkner and William Warwick cross swords and this one includes a few different elements, including one linked to the Crown Jewels. Good tension and plotting.

My second book finished for #WinterGames. A short book, but I enjoyed it a lot. A great story about a man and woman who met on a plane grounded by snow, and a drive cross country for them. Loved the characters.
This also meets #RedCover for #WinterGamesDailyPhotoChallenge.
