Darling Girls: A Novel | Sally Hepworth

Pickpick

Dark, tragic, & suspenseful, this is my favorite Hepworth yet. I wouldn‘t say I was particularly shocked by any of the twists, but I loved the intricacies of each plot line & how well-thought out it was. I felt the back & forth between past & present & the multiple point of views played perfectly in telling the story of Jessica, Norah, & Alicia. The characters are complex & multi-dimensional &made this more than just your typical mystery/thriller.

Hooked_on_books I‘ve heard this is an amazing book. But the abuse bit is why I won‘t be reading it. But I‘m really glad so many people are appreciating it! 8mo

Kristy_K Good to know about the content warnings. I‘m on the fence about this one b/c sometimes that becomes too much for me. (edited) 8mo
jenniferw88 @Kristy_K, it's probably not for you then, as although I wasn't triggered, it definitely could for some people - I did find myself pausing it just after the tougher parts. I'm also pretty sure I've missed some triggers, but I think I've got the majority of the main ones listed here. 8mo

For a book filled with horrible characters and an unreliable narrator, I just could not stop reading. I had a suspicion of one of the twists in this thriller, but there were definitely surprises.

Charlie survived Scarlet Christmas, a horrific incident at her journalism school that left 3 dead. She thinks she‘s coping, but is she? 9 years after the incident, her life begins to unravel as she addresses her trauma. So many secrets, so entertaining.

BarbaraBB Sounds intriguing, great review 8mo

Hooked_on_books I think some of the best mystery/thrillers have all dreadful characters! It makes it more interesting and when it‘s a “who died?” situation, you‘re glad to get rid of any of them! 😂 8mo
Librarybelle @Hooked_on_books So true! I kind of like either really horrible people in books or the unreliable narrator…you never know what‘s going to happen! 8mo
Kristy_K Great book for this prompt! 8mo
