I saw this at my local Books-A-Million (I like my indie better, but I needed a quick fix man!) and thought “oh, I didn‘t know this was out yet...yay!” Then I looked it up on GoodReads and noticed it‘s NOT supposed to be out yet! I have #bookhaul photos for y‘all, but I‘m starting the morning off with some hot coffee, gingerbread biscuits, and Adam Silvera‘s “They Both Die at the End.” I had a bad reading slump in Nov. and I think this will help me get out of it! 🤟🏼📖☕️

While I wait for 5 pm to open my #theretellingbookswap package, I'm reading this lovely middle grade novel in verse for #Bookstagram's #DiverseBooksClub. The book is about a family's flight from Vietnam during the War and this passage made me pause.

Y'all, this book...
I started following a #Bookstagram account named DiverseBooksClub last week. They are "a group of readers dedicated to diverse literature of all kinds." They've started a book club, of which this is one of the Oct reads. I got sucked in immediately and listened to the whole thing yesterday!
It packs a punch, even as a "middle grade reader" (ages 8-12) and is so, so relevant to read right now.

My friend opened a bookstore "by and for people of color, where everyone is welcome" called Duende District. She doesn't have a brick and mortar store yet, but currently has a pop up at a coffee shop in Takoma Park, Washington, DC. I'm so proud of her and was super excited to support her vision (and get a caffeine fix!) this morning.
