#unpopularopinion To be fair I really should not have read this book. I have read and disliked a couple of the author‘s other books but there were so many glowing reviews and then it was chosen for my book club so I gave it a try. Despite an interesting premise, I found it to be less inspiring and more self-helpy platitudes. But I am so far in the minority on this one.

I started this on audio and had a hard time following the story. When I switched to print it became much easier to understand. I hadn't known of the American Library in Paris and this is an interesting introduction to it and its place in WWII history.

Syria‘s Secret Library is about the power of books, literature, education, and art to give people hope and purpose. It also describes the conflict in Syria and the effects it‘s had on residents, especially in Darayya. It‘s amazing that the author never visited the library because he describes it so vividly, thanks to the information received online from his contacts there.

I had a feeling I would like this book, but I honestly didn‘t know I was going to love it. It really makes you stop and think what could have been but also appreciate what you have. Life is made of infinite choices with infinite possibilities. I really enjoyed this venture into a multiverse. Nora decides to commit suicide and ends up in a library where she gets to look for a new life to live. The ending was a bit predictable but satisfying.

The premise is fantastic. What if, between life and death, there is a place you can go to try on other lives, other possibilities, to see if your regrets are warranted, if your current life is worth it? This book trip takes you to a predictable place but the ride there is worth it!
