A retelling of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Cade‘s a priest who comes to Festivalé for cleansing. There he meets Amaya, whose dancer name is Esmeralda. Cade feels he has a monster within him that he feels Amaya brings out of him. When trouble finds Amaya, will Cade save her or kill her too?

I didn‘t like this one. It was too weird & awkward for me. I didn‘t like either of the characters & they didn‘t have any character arcs.

This is an older book of Roberts's (1991), which was mainly illustrated by how many cigarettes the MC smoked 😂 Cilla a night DJ for a Denver radio station who starts getting threatening calls from a listener who says he wants revenge and is going to kill her. You'll be unsurprised to learn that Cilla ends up with a hot, single detective to help her through these trying times. This book definitely had some weak spots in the suspense aspect of ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of the plot, but as usual Roberts writes likable and engaging characters. The next book is about Cilla's sister, and I'll definitely be reading that one soon.

Does anyone else have a neverending TBR? I've got books piling up. I think it will be time for new shelves this year. Because you can never have too many books. Don't you agree? This one ended up under the Christmas tree in December. Yes, Santa knew what I wanted and I guess I was nice😆

My friends know what I want and need.

TheSpineView I could live two lifetimes and never get through my TBR list of just books I already own. There is no such thing as too many books! 3w

Loved the show, love the book. It‘s funny how much you can enjoy the life of a sadistic man and walk away wanting more and not hating him. I have the second novel on the my shelf just waiting to be read!

Do your expressions of love tend towards the darker side? Do you like unrequited or tortured love? Maybe romance is outside of your spectrum? Or perhaps you detest the commercialization of signs of affection?

Bookwormjillk @mcctrish there was some skirt swishing for sure 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly The count is so fatherly to Emily! Throwing his buddy Du Pont at her just like her real dad did with Valancourt. 🙄 And pretty condescending to boot. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I just thought it was hilarious that after all the times Ludo locked up Annette in a room, he finally got himself locked up for a change of pace 😂 I'm worried about him, though, because despite his room-locking tendencies, he's actually one of my favorite characters! 2mo
peanutnine @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣 so true! I like him too though 2mo

Much like Sarah Dessen's Dreamland, I'm glad I didn't read this when it first came out, as it wouldn't have been as impactful. A little hard to read at times due to the emotions and trauma, but I appreciate the raw honesty and the ending, as well as the characters.

I was in a reading slump for a good portion of this year, I had a terrible accident and suffered an ankle break and subsequent surgery. I had not read for months and months and this was the book that got me back into a groove! I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the dark romance, enemies to lovers vibe. The author does a good job of forwarding the readers of possible triggers. I loved reading it.
