BarkingMadRead So so good! The movie isn‘t bad, either, although it ended differently 1d

Mehso-so

This short comic is Stephen King‘s homage to the pulp horror comics of the 1950s with all their goofy gory gruesomeness. Our guide, the Creep, takes us through five stories of terrible people and their horrible demises.

There were a couple of panels that did make me giggle, but overall the book is pretty meh. The first and last stories are the strongest.

If by some chance you are super into those old horror comics, you‘ll probably like this.

The first novella is a tale of obsession, the kind all pro athletes must have to excel at that level. Of course, it‘s King, so that obsession isn‘t just about being a good catcher.

The second story is even darker, pondering morality and the basis of it. Neither Blockade Billy nor Morality is King‘s greatest work, but they‘re worth the two hours or so I spent with them.

Classic King. This is totally in the vein of his previous tales where ‘an otherworldly event taking place globally (but its epicenter in a small Maine town, duh) and the minute-by-minute actions taken by a large cast of locals fighting on either side of the dilemma‘. I‘m hard-pressed to see what contributions were made by his son and co-author Owen. It reads exactly like King‘s voice and feels part of his fictional universe. By the way, it‘s good!

4⭐️

I‘m finding that I‘m coming to appreciate how long Stephen King‘s books are because I end up really caring about what happens by the end of them and appreciate how intricate details become once we reach the height of the conflict. It was so captivating to watch how much chaos came from these “little pranks” and the way the illusions gripped the realties of the townsfolk.

I get that it‘s a metaphor for (in particular the Vietnam) War. I see what the purpose was. But holy moly was it boring.

BarkingMadRead It‘s so repetitive. I‘m about halfway through, reading a chapter a day. I remember being interested and also disgusted by it when I first read it (high school, maybe?) 2w
