Reading Goals: Extended Readers for Basic Reading | Glenn McCracken, Charles Child Walcutt

In 2025, I'd like to find solace in reading.

I'd like to be a more present, dedicated reader, keeping better track of my accomplishments (even small ones!) and celebrating my progress.

I'd like to try, in earnest, to participate in activities that'll motivate me to be a more conscientious consumer by reading from my collection rather than just building upon it.

Hooked_on_books These look like great goals! I‘ve been working on reading my own books for the last several years with mixed results. I still read lots of books from other places but have managed to make my personal library net negative for several years in a row! 💪🏼 2mo

Good on you for making the net negative so consistently! ☺️ There is something to be said about dedicating one's self to not just acquiring books for the sake of building a beautiful collection (although, don't get me wrong, ain't nothing bad about that!), but actually READING the titles we bring into our homes. Librariana Oh, @Sace ... I hope my goals didn't come across as shaming of anyone else's choices because that wasn't the intention ? Some years back, I attempted to do a "no buy" challenge, but I failed miserably after about... 4 months, I wanna say? ? I can't stop buying books altogether, but I definitely want to put some effort into being more conscientious about WHAT I purchase, which I think I did better with this past year. 2mo

Librariana @Sace I want, more than anything, to not just let my books sit on a shelf and gather dust. I want to take the poor dears down and actually READ them! Ain't nothing wrong with continuing to add to our collections, but I'd hate for my older books to get resentful of the newer acquisitions 😉 2mo

Sace Oh I didn‘t feel shamed at all! I found this post very inspiring. I just meant that I already have so many books, but it is so hard to resist getting new ones. I want to be better about that too. 2mo

Deblovestoread Love this post and seeing others make an effort to read from their shelves. It‘s my main goal for 2025. Not a book buying ban because books will be bought but hopefully in a more conscientious way. 2mo

Librariana @Sace I am right there with ya on how hard it is to resist!! I have a friend who is the owner of a local indie bookstore, and I gotta tell ya... it is a constant exercise in self-control 😆Her store it is one of my happy places 🥰 2mo

Librariana I love the way you phrased that, @Deblovestoread! "Not a book buying ban because books will be bought" TRUE! I tried keeping myself from buying and I was only able to hold off for a few months. I don't want to deny myself that pleasure, but you're right about being more conscientious. 2mo
