Ways to Make Sunshine | Rene Watson

First book in a series that I started with my daughter. I love the way the author handles trials in Ryan‘s friendships, and frustrations about moving to a new home. She and her brother often pick on each other, but they have each other‘s backs when it matters. I love how encouraging her parents are and the ways that the family connects through traditions. We‘re definitely reading the next book in the series.

I won book 5 in a LibraryThing giveaway and thought I‘d catch up on the series while I wait for my copy. This was an adorable quick read about a boy that moves to a new city, discovers a fruit bat in his bedroom, and makes friends with his neighbors. Oh, and then there‘s the pigeon. 😂

After 15 years of living in Sacramento I've been noticing lately that I have a love/hate relationship with my city. I've lived here longer than any where else. I have a lot of memories here, but I don't see myself putting down roots, or growing old here. Reading this book was eye opening and inspiring. A mix of personal anecdotes and research, the author gives lots of examples of how one can actively learn to love where they live.

##Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. I used to move constantly, but we've now lived in the same house in Vermont since November 2012.

2. Stoner - the title character moves from the tiny farm where he grew up to the University of Missouri, first as a student and later as a professor.
