Not book related, but who needs a porch goose when you have a portrait of your dogs? New tradition unlocked: they'll be getting themed hats every season from now on. 😂🎩👒🧢

Hooked_on_books You could get them put into American Gothic. They‘d be perfect for it. 1mo

I've had this on my TBR for a really long time so I'm glad to finally have read it!
I always liked the movie but felt like there was something missing from it and so I was hoping that the book would give me something more but oddly enough the book read even choppier, if you can believe it.

Dialogue felt stilted at different moments, scenes were awkward in a way that weren't in the film but all in all a solid read that reminded me of why I love it

I've been going back and listening to the audiobooks of Batman movie novelizations. Unfortunately, Batman '89 was easily the best, maybe the only good one so far. I was not a fan of the narrator here, especially his Riddler voice. There are some “deleted scenes“ that were interesting, but, maybe due to the narrator, I just wasn't too invested in listening closely and sussing out the differences.

It's well established in the book that Mrs Bennett was a beauty "in her youth" so this illustration made me laugh. At the time of the novel she'd likely be 45 at most (probably closer to 40) yet this artist chose to make her look a great deal older. ?

KadaGul I think 🤔 at the time, 40 seemed like 90🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm really noticing now that at 58 I'm older than all the 'old' characters. 😄 2mo
bookandbedandtea @KadaGul Right! I used to think it was due to the lower life expectancy but then I learned that number is due to the high rate of childhood death. Once a person reached adulthood there was every reason to think they'd live into old age so the view of people Mrs Bennet's age being old still strikes me as weird. 🤔 2mo
bookandbedandtea @Crinoline_Laphroaig Same! I'm 56 and it's always a bit of a shock to realize that some old person in a book is a good deal younger than I am! 🤦‍♀️😆 2mo

Few ideas for 'Now' discussion of Sense & Sensibility. I can't wait to see what everyone read & watched! 📖📚📺

peanutnine I read the tagged because I love murder mysteries! It was excellent and I think true to the spirit of the original. I also watched the 1995 film, which is a favorite. I didn't know about a mini series! I'll have to check it out 2mo
CaramelLunacy @peanutnine I just finished Sense and Second Degree Murder as well. I had a good time with the investigations, and especially Margaret gathering material for her horrid novels! 2mo
CaramelLunacy I watched the movie From Prada to Nada, a contemporary retelling where Nora and Mary are spoiled rich girls in Beverly Hills and have to move in with a working class aunt when they lose their father. I had a good time, though Mary was so horrid at the beginning I had a hard time with her redemption. The big gesture at the end was utterly ridiculous, but the romantic in me went awwwww anyway! 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy if it makes you happy that's what matters. Sounds like a fun movie. 2mo
peanutnine @CaramelLunacy yes Margaret was an unexpectedly delightful character! 2mo

Watched these two adaptations over the last two evenings and I truly love both. I had forgotten Anna Madeley (Mrs. Hall of All Creatures Great & Small) was Miss Lucy Steele. Maybe the 2008 3 episode series has a slight edge since it has more content than 1995 film.
