Pickpick

I loved this book primarily because I love Marina Abramovic. It tells the true story of Marina‘s art, so singular & intriguing, focusing on her time sitting at MOMA for months staring into people‘s eyes & the long lines of people waiting for the opportunity to sit before her. It covers a wide range of her events. I appreciated hearing about her parents. Through it all there is the fictional story being told of several attendees of the MOMA event.

BarbaraBB I never knew this book is about Marina. I love her art so much! Stacking! 7d
Suet624 @BarbaraBB I didn‘t realize it either until @Jas16 sent it to me. You‘ll like it. 7d
CarolynM I liked this one more than I expected to. I thought some of it was a bit pretentious but lots of it was really good. I think you‘ll like it too @BarbaraBB 6d

Suet624 @CarolynM Pretentious? I‘m curious about that. 6d
CarolynM I can't remember the details and I don't have a copy of the book any more, so I can't give you chapter and verse, but I think it was that some of the discussion about the significance of the artwork was a bit much for my taste. I felt like the writer was trying too hard with some of the descriptions. 6d
Suet624 @CarolynM interesting. I can see how the character of Levin and his music might have felt that way. I‘m so in awe of Marina that I may not have seen the sections on her as pretentious. I just find her courageous and one of a kind. 6d
Jeg I remember this book , not all the details but that I did enjoy it. 5d
Suet624 @Jeg ❤️❤️ 5d
Jeg Just checked I read it 8 years ago for book club and yes I did love it. 5d
Suet624 @Jeg I‘m really glad you liked it as much as I did. Honestly, I didn‘t realize it was published that long ago! 5d

Well this quote caught my attention….

BarbaraBB Scary 3w
Amiable My birthday is April 21. I cringe every year because a lot of horrible events have happened in history during the week before—Waco, Oklahoma City, Columbine, Virginia Tech, the Boston Marathon bombing, the fire at Notre Dame, etc. … if we make it to my birthday without a major tragedy I usually breathe a sign of relief. 3w
Bookwormjillk Hmmmm, yikes 3w

Suet624 @BarbaraBB I agree. 😩 3w
Suet624 @Amiable that‘s so intense. I had never put it together that so many things happened then. Why does that happen???? 3w
Suet624 @Bookwormjillk yeah, my thought exactly. (edited) 3w
AmyG What will happen this year???? 😬 3w

Today it‘s snowing. A year ago Vermonters were joyous because there was actually sunshine in our state for the solar eclipse. I miss that day. It was spectacular. So today I‘ll see if I can buy an iPhone from a local store before the prices increase (I hate you know who) and I‘ll read this book that I can‘t get enough of.

BarbaraBB Snow! Is that normal for this time of year in VT? 3w
sarahbarnes This sounds good - stacking. And I hear you on the iPhone. I need to get one, too, but keep putting it off. 3w
Suet624 @BarbaraBB spring is cruel around here. It‘s not unusual for it to snow even later in the month after the daffodils have come up. 3w

Suet624 @sarahbarnes I have an iPhone X that used to be my son‘s phone. 😂 he‘s upgraded twice since then. 3w
Hooked_on_books I hate him, too. 3w
marleed Dang I was just noticing how much more often my iPhone needs a charge and was trying to figure out if I could steal away a weekday to upgrade my phone before I deeply regret that I didn‘t. My days are book solid for over a week and I‘m afraid I‘ll be too late. 3w
Suet624 @marleed they actually had a promotional deal going. It was as if they had no idea what was about to happen. I got a 15 at a ridiculous price. 3w

A beautiful and delightful tribute to art, imagination, creativity and the city of New York. I love to discover dialogue free books, purely visual storytelling, There's such a wealth of possibilities, I feel like there's so much more to explore and experiment with in such a medium that there should be more out there than I've found. Happy to take recommendations!

1) I love a good museum. The Blasket Centre is a museum of the Blasket Islands and the stories of its inhabitants until the last one left. Dunquin, Ireland. I‘ll also give a shout out to the Portland Art Museum. It‘s a fine way to spend an afternoon.

2) The tagged book was on an #AuldLangSpine list a few years ago.

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView

Want to play @Blueroseis @LiseWorks @PageShifter

TheSpineView You're welcome and thanks for playing 8mo
LiseWorks Oh dear, I don't do museums. Mostly because they are far from me. I prefer the museum of nature. The outdoors. 😏 8mo
Kimzey Ohhh, I went to the Blasket Centre last year! They did an excellent job using material culture and oral histories to tell the stories of the islanders. It was a beautiful day and we ate lunch outside looking out at the ocean. I wish I could go back and spend more time there. 3w
