Lovely War | Julie Berry

Two love stories during WWI told and manipulated by Greek gods. This part was interesting (3.8⭐️). Within these fictional love stories, the author integrated true facts of racism😢during the war and war devastation😔Some characters were inspired by real persons. At the end she gave good references about all these topics (4⭐️). I was even listening James Reese Europe music and reading more about WWI since PR was mentioned in the story❤️

Very late #Historathon (February) prompt-HF book about a war other than WWII. The main topics in this books were during WWI.

Inspired on true facts about what happened with Jewish children at the end of WWII😢literary fiction story about a woman & her daughter separated during this time in Poland. Beautifully written with open hopeful ending but still devastating☹️Slow reading, have been criticized in some parts like unrealistic behavior of this 5 y/o child.Novel motivated me to read more about this sad period in history (to never repeat it with any culture or race)4⭐️

March #BookSpin common theme in literature but in this case, part of the deal with the darkness was that Addie would be forgotten by everyone: “Do you think life has any value if one doesn‘t leave some mark upon the world?” But 300 years later, someone said “I remember you”. I really enjoyed this one.It is dark if you think what Addie did with darkness.Loved how past & future were integrated.Do you think it will be a sequel? 3.9/4⭐️Thanks @mabell

I‘m always late😳in my readathons☺️this is part of February #Historathon (YouTube) book covered 2 prompts-name on the cover & no persons on the cover.

I couldn‘t put down this book. I read it physically in conjunction with the audiobook (love it).

Feb #DoubleSpin this is about a puritanical community with misogyny religious believes and traditions. I didn‘t like much the end but still love this story full of action, mystery, suspense, paranormal and some romance. It is about prophesies, visions, lies, betrayals, curses and witches. Love the cover😱3.9⭐️Love author acknowledgements specially when she mentioned her mom. Someone told me about a sequel, is that true? Thanks @Chrissyreadit ⬇️

Chrissyreadit @Gissy would you make a post of your 5 star reads? 4y
Gissy @Chrissyreadit I can but I don‘t have many 5⭐️Books. I‘m not an expert but I think 5⭐️is something extraordinary in creativity and language. But that is my subjective opinion. Many books had won awards and some of them are not necessarily the most popular one. Many books in movies or TV series not necessarily have great ratings. Some of my 5⭐️Are classics: like Crime & Punishment, I loved King Lear, Cancer Pavilion, some books of Voltaire, (edited) 4y

Gissy Chekhov Short stories, etc But my 4⭐️ And 4.5 are special because of the language, or the topic. I know, I‘m not “normal@🤣 @Chrissyreadit 4y
Chrissyreadit @Gissy yes- it‘s because it is so rare for you that I am so curious to see them 4y
Gissy @Chrissyreadit ☺️But I‘m so sentimental with my books because even if I didn‘t like them much, it is so hard for me to unhaul them, maybe because I‘m in love with the cover or maybe because there were parts that I enjoyed or adored. This month I definitely not going to unhaul any, not the so-so ones neither the Pan one. They will stay with me🤗I unhaul those that I know I will never re-read them at all for many circumstances. 4y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 4y
Chrissyreadit @Gissy you made me laugh- and my whole body hurts from the vaccine! 🤣 4y
Bookzombie It looks like this will be a series. I didn‘t realize that until after I read it. The second book has a December publication date now. 🙂 4y
Gissy @Bookzombie Thank you for let me know. So excited. I hope they don‘t change the cover much, you know how publishers are🙄She changed the name of the year...so let‘s see if something happens a year later...🧐 4y

I put this book down long time ago & I know now why. Florentino loved Fermina for more than 50 years, can life give them a second chance? I loved how author described life style in different generations and changes in life span using beautiful daily and funny expressions. However, Florentino‘s love for me is obsessive & pathological. Triggers: pedophilia & rape with no remorse but fear to be caught. Unhealthy love-narcissistic personality 3⭐️

Gissy This is my second novel by this author and I think it doesn‘t work for me. In two novels, pedophilia is seen as “normal” expression of love which is not. No remorse exists in those characters. I know this is an uncommon opinion about this book and about this author.
Book read for #Historathon (YouTube) prompt-multigenerational

SamAnne This is a book club read for me in March. 4y
Gissy @SamAnne But my opinion is uncommon. Most of the persons like the book and it has its merits. You will find traditions and beautiful phrases. I loved the description of some of these traditions since we share some of them. So, keep your motivation up, my opinion is not common. 4y
BeatrixNBooks @Gissy you are not the only one. I liked the book as the beauty of ugliness, but the episodes of raping and pedophilia drawn the value of the book for me, as well. 4y

Before her death, Hélène made her husband promise her to write 33 letter; each one for each year she lived. This is the story of Julien, about his grief, his struggles to continue with his life, about how he moved on, with love. If you liked P.S. I Love You, you maybe like this one. Loved how author described this place and his continue references about art, literature and even songs. Based on something author saw in a remote cemetery. 3.75/.3,8⭐️

Gissy I read this book for #Historathon (Youtube) the prompt was to read HF in a place you visited. Well this is not a HF per se but I visited Montmartre and the author made references to the past continuously and the place is full of history so I thought🧐it complies with the prompt😜I‘m flexible in this readathon. I finished it yesterday but I had problems with internet to post the review.

Gissy I wrote your Litsy name incorrectly 😲@TheAromaOfBooks I saw your post that you mention what you are reading and past books. Do you transfer the books not read in your bingo card for that month to the next month bingo card? If that is the case, sounds good to track books not read. 4y

TheAromaofBooks Most of the time I do end up rolling over my unread books onto my new bingo card, although sometimes if I've gone the whole month without touching that book, it just means I don't actually want to read it & it's time to let it go! 😂 4y
Gissy @TheAromaOfBooks It sounds like a good plan to decrease the tbr. I will try that, not necessarily with all the books left left behind in that month because I‘m a season-mood reader, but some of them. 4y
Andrew65 Love the look of this book. Well done 👏👏👏 4y

Finished it yesterday very late. Gothic story in boarding school. I don‘t know the purpose of the story. School has like a paranormal sense, a cult & sci fi bc the experiments? Premise was good but it was like chunk of events not well related, last pages were interesting with an end that maybe will have a sequel? I don‘t know. I‘m glad I read it because I like to discover by myself if I like it or not. So thanks @freskner book was in my tbr 2.8⭐️

Gissy I still think that I will like to try this author if she writes another novel. I read an interview with her and was so interesting. This novel has mixed reviews. Some personas has given 4 stars. I read it as part of #Black History Month. Also as part of #HF readathon since it has reference of the past when the school was founded so for me it comply the prompt of HF with a diverse author😜 4y

Gissy @MidnightBookGirl Read it, it has mixed reviews and you never know if you like it. I will try any book by author if she writes something in the future. This novel has some interesting actions. I love the cover so it will stay with me. I‘m a sucker with pretty covers☺️ 4y

Here are the 20 books for #BookSpinBingo. Books go in accordance with various activities I will participate including #Historathon (A Historical Fiction Readathon) #LiterallyDeadBookClub #Buzzword (and another modifying Buzzword but with S. King books). I left the free spaces in blank because there are so many books I want to read and I‘m a slow reader😩Every month in my mind I think I will read all of them🙄
